Singtel launched their Event Data Priority Pass specially for NDP at Padang/Marina Bay area

Paid $5 for it and instant activation.

Do note there's still 10GB fair use policy applies. And it lasts for 48 hrs.

Went to Esplanade area to enjoy NDP Marina Bay procession and watch NDP stream from meWatch app. Spent about 5GB worth of data within that 3 hrs span.

I have to say that 3 hrs streaming experience was about 90% fluid with 70% of the time on SingTel 5G SA and 30% on SingTel 5G NSA. MeWatch app was streaming on highest quality 90% of the time then the other 10% on lower pixelated quality with some jerks and buffering. Those 10% only happens strictly on SingTel 5G NSA. It was streaming at 1.2MB/s as shown on my status bar indicator.

I have also momentarily switched network to my Giga 5G for testing and I have to say Giga 5G SA dropped off very fast and maintained at 4G (not even 4G+) network most of the time. Giga 5G SA has also allowed me to stream at highest quality but it's 5G SA signal only maintained for 30 seconds before dropping off to Giga 4G which instantly killed off my stream every single time. Giga network kept toggling between 4G and 5G SA where 5G SA came and go within a flash second. Thus, Giga was unusable for me.

This experience clearly shows me how bad and congested 4G network have gotten at such peak utility and 5G gave much breather (like climbing onto a canopy) be it SA or NSA. As long as I was on 5G, I could surf. As long as I went back 4G, network hangs.

Was this your first experience with Singtel 5G Express Pass? Previously you got mention that you might try it out for A-mei concert.

Yeah but I didn't get it for amei concert cos i intend to buy for Rainie Yang Concert to test and compare with and without the data pass. Too bad Rainie cancelled her concert so can no longer test.

Nevertheless, during amei concert I face no issue loading insta stories or Facebook so I guess it's good enough.

Honestly at amei concert I didn't really have much time to do more testing cos I reach just about 5 mins before starts. Yes inside it's all Singtel 5G SA for me. I didn't have the opportunity to switch down to NSA or 4G my bad. But I also did observe other adjacent concertgoers able to surf social media normally. So I believe that night wasn't necessary to have the addon.

Another thing to note was adjacent National Stadium wasn't having any event that night. Thus, contributing to the better than expected network performance.

I feel that crowd at Singapore indoor stadium alone is not huge enough to congest network traffic. Unlike the kind of crowd scale for National Stadium concerts or Marina Bay for NDP.

And I believe network traffic would start facing challenge only when both Singapore Indoor Stadium AND National Stadium are running concerts concurrently.

Later this October both Jay Chou concert at National Stadium + Andy Lau concert at Singapore Indoor Stadium is one occasion everyone should look out for.

Singtel 5G NSA: 50% smooth, 50% buffer/jerks
Network never downgrade to 4G throughout

Giga 5G SA: 95% smooth, 5% buffer/jerks
Giga 4G:

Perhaps I guess Singtel prioritise us Data pass subscribers by giving us a long hand, holding our dear life onto their 5G SA network while they probably banish and kicking everyone else down to 4G like how Giga treated me though I subscribed to their 5G plan.

Overall 5G SA during NDP feels like normal peacetime 4G experience while 4G felt like 2G/3G at most extreme ulu places.

I am using Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with both Singtel 5G eSIM and Giga 5G eSIM.

Hope all these info can help you guys consider whether or not to purchase their $5 addon on your upcoming concert days.

How bad was your bad with Singtel at National Stadium? Were you at floor or bowl section?

For me during all the concerts there, both my Giga 4G and GOMO 4G were totally unusable to the point whatsapp text/call can't even go through. I had very hard time trying to reach my friend to meet inside stadium. Panic sia.

Had 0 issues on my Starhub/Simba lines even uploading the occasional IG stories between songs.

Shocking you couldn't even send out WhatsApp.

Singtel (GOMO) 1 bar, unusable at all, no receive whatsapp
SIMBA 2 bar 5G, usable can even post IG story

I think cause all foreigner using main 3 telco that doesnt include SIMBA, while few SG ppl using SIMBA so not as congested and affected
