[Official] SSD/HDD/RAM queries

Currently stil using late 2011 macbook Pro. It's working fine except tt it's really laggy. Boot up is laggy and opening application is also laggy. Should I increase ram to 8gb or change to ssd?can't afford to do both

-Current ram is 4gb.
-and stil alot of space left in storage though.only use half of the storage available.

My vote goes to SSD. I'm using 2011 MBp too. But my ssd is direct from factory. It's still snappy but it's showing signs of wear recently (last 6 months)

SSD bah, nowadays even though 4GB ram isn't much, it is still enough for most tasks like web browsing and light productivity. SSD will allow you to boot faster, start programs faster and search for files faster.

What ssd to get and where please? 250gb is more than enuf for me. Don't want to spend so much either.

You need a 2.5" sATA SSD. OWC specialises in upgrade parts for mac, you can take a look at their site here.

Alternatively, you can go simlim and look around. WD Green and Samsung 850 EVO SSDs are all pretty good choices. If I remember correctly for the 240GB WD Green it's about 130 and the 250GB Samsung 850 EVO it's about 150. Fundamentally they serve the same purpose, but the samsung has a faster write speed so if you plan on doing creative work on your machine go with the samsung.

Edit: Personally I'm using an Intel 545s in my 2008 Macbook and a Samsung 750 EVO in my windows desktop. User experience wise there shouldn't be too big of a difference that is noticeable.

M.2 SSD, PCIE or SATA safer?

Worry that if choose PCIE, then need data recovery cannot use M.2 to SATA adapter.

What’s the smallest ssd ?
I get quote 130 for 128gb with installation. Is that sufficient?
