Counter sampling? They went up after u bought. U so huat.
To be frank, I'm learning the market.
Tech shares look all time high but they are still climbing higher.
Bought some distressed stocks but they are still not making money and volatile to market sentiment.

Taking a step back, slowly investing in TECH stocks. Resilient .

I am priority member, that is the reason of buying a few units with transaction price of USD1-2k.

Luckily I did so, the stock market is pulling back. DCA !

Aha! The freedom of no min comms. Those megatech were in ath because of high earnings and assets. I bought some cheaper tech companies. See how it goes.

Yes, if no min comm is really good for DCA. 500-1K per counter per month.

short selling is sell high buy low which is not allowed in scb

Can you explain this one a bit more?

My understanding is that short selling refers to the selling of shares which (at the point of selling) do not "belong" to you yet (i.e. not in your stock balance).

When a trade is fulfilled in SCB, are the bought shares immediately reflected in the "Custody" tab, or does it only appear after a few days?

What is a specific example/sequence events in a buy and sell trade that will trigger short-selling warning. (assuming that I have sufficient funds in my settlement account for the purchase)

Also, I am trading in the US market - does that make a difference?

Since purchasing power and stocks balance r updated instantly, u can sell immediately after buying, and buy again immediately with the money. No time limit. The only limits are the purchasing power and stocks balance.
If u try to sell more than what u have in stock balance, the system will stop u. This is short-selling. It has nothing to do with buying or your fund in settlement account. It applies to all markets.

Okay I finally got it :s13:

Traditional: Buy low, then sell high
Short selling: (Borrow shares to) sell high, then buy low

Noob investor here. SC seems to have a new account promo on 'buy' transactions. I intend to purchase and hold VUSD but am unsure of the fees even with all the info out there. If there is a rebate on the brokerage fee, what other fees am I incurring? Does SC charge a 15% witholding tax on dividends as well?

I'm investing a small sum (5-10K), not sure if VUSD is the best option for global ETF. Thanks for helping.

There is a 7% of the brokerage fee tax charged by SG govt. 15% of the dividend tax is charged by US govt. Vusd is US etf, not global.

Oh alright. For example, if the brokerage fee is $10, then it's $10.70 due to GST and Ireland side gets charged 15% witholding tax from US side. But since there's no brokerage fee, there's no GST incurred on the 'buy' transaction as well? That's it for the fees right?

Wrong, scb will still charge the brokerage fee so there is gst. After some mths, scb will refund the $10 but SG govt will not refund $0.70 to u.
