Honestly speaking, lauya location is not in Alishan. So you expected to pay for those transport you mentioned.
The luggage deposit is something extra but u don’t want to return to lauya to take in the end pay extra.
Your trip becomes pay and pay becusse u chose lauya.
Perhaps after working out the cost u had rather stayed at Alishan hotel sgd $300 per night but with breakfast and dinner buffet plus shuttle bus service around.
You paid twd 300 for entrance into Alishan ?

Wear a beanie to keep warm, the last time I went also about 5 deg, very cold and nothing much to do before the sun rises, so keep eating hot fish balls selling at the side. Bring a thermal flask if you can.

That side where u buy food is not the best view.
The best view is about 10 mins down and up a 360deg viewing deck.

I Read the shuttle bus within Alishan. Timing ver accommodating. Base on review from booking.com.
Within alishan wise, i rather walk.
Walking is a breeze and cooling, need no tram for me and my mum.
Whats within walkin distance ar if inside recreation area?

I will walk to 樱王。
Alternative, walk down from the 神木区 back to recreation area.
Time taken, 1.5h downwards.
Bring a water bottle along.

Walk downward is very relaxing, in between can take break.
Alishan got 2 train line, 1 from chiayi to FQH, another from alishan train station to zushan station.
There is no train from chiayi to alishan.
