Been trying to psyco people to use Telegram since its launch because of the encrypted messages. Till now, none of my friends jumped into the bandwagon. All still stocked with WhatsApp.

Agree! Been using telegram ever since it was available on the App store and manage to get most of my working contacts to use telegram. A very good platform because of the multi device usage.

if i am not wrong, telegram keeps your chat history. so in addition to multiple devices login, you also retain the chat history across the devices.

for whatsapp, iPhone can backup. but if u switch from android to iphone or iphone to android, the chat history is nearly impossible to transfer.

Tried getting friends to use it but to no avail. Will move over to Telegram once it gets popular.

Heard Whatsapp is charging users at the end of 2015 should they want to continue using the app.

Pros n cons. Retain chat history? Mean it wil sync all device? I believe others might complain again why data usage suddenly jump high again when change new device... LOL

I'm not say either telegram or whatsapp better, but I don't understand why we need retain all the chat history since day 1 or certain history? Will u guy really scroll and read it always? If really important history why not note down in somewhere instead of keep on phone history?

One part which I hate about WA is the fact that its tied to phones, and messages (especially images) can take a long time to send ever since the 2.11.9 update.

Installed telegram. No one in my contacts is using it. It feels more smooth compared to WA, but there's no point keeping the app if nobody is using it.

That was my experience when I first installed it (at time it was first launched). Now I have quite a no of friends in my contact list using this app. Need time.

Yea. Me too. been using telegram with few of my friends. if we want to raise awareness for this app, we need to focus on the advantages of the app. Like it's free, can retain chats so it's easier if ppl switch phones etc, can use across multiple platforms, more stable and secure than whatsapp, create groups up to 200 people! and can send gifs and other documents too! basically, what whatsapp can do, i feel telegram does it better.

Stable and smooth at the moment might due to less user. We will only know if is it really so smooth after they have same user as whatsapp

Multiple platforms ftw imo.

Well, hopefully this thread will be a start to creating awareness for this app. :)

As long as majority of our contacts don't change over, which isn't gonna happen anytime soon... the usage of Telegram will forever be limited and lose out..

tried using it when it came out and they talked everything about security but after that read some sites online saying that it's actually pretty shady too? How true is it? :look: in the end i also uninstalled cause after 1 month i don't see my contact list increasing

I've only ever used whatsapp. Don't see the need to switch since these are useful for group chats rather than individual messages. And most of the time the groups I try to set up involve local and overseas numbers. And typically everyone has whatsapp. No need for anyone to download anything extra. I don't see why I need to install multiple chat clients when everyone seems to have the same one.

That's why I've not used line as well.

Ya it's really tough to get people to switch la.

But we can always try. Haha some of my friends have switched and they love it. But of course, we got a mountain to climb.

personally, i like the secret chats function. it has encryption and also can set self-destruct timer something like snapchat.

and of course, it updates the app faster than whatsapp. for a small company compared to whatsapp, it is already optimized for ip6/6+. n now it allows adding of contacts without phone numbers; just use usernames.
