新元兑令吉上一次的历史高峰，是1998年3月31日创下的2.6935令吉。今天早上，新元兑令吉汇率一开盘便刷新历史记录，但随即回跌至2.68至2.69令吉之间的价位，距离2.70仍有一步之遥。

国际油价最近跌破每桶50美元的价位，与油价走势挂钩的令吉也跟着下跌。马国是石油出口国，面对石油价下跌，马国政府今年可能无法达到所设定的预算赤字。另一方面，美元走强也提携新元兑令吉等许多货币攀升。
