Won't the total difference be < than your total bus/train fare to meet the person? No money changer near your place?

Depends on amount, which part of SG your nearest money changer is, and which part of JB you're heading for.

you might as well go to money charger and ask them to give you a better rate for MYR to SGD since it is a big amount.
