How location-based Wifi actually works? It automatically disables your Wifi radio when not in range of a saved network.

Does it mean that GPS have to be turned on?
Or wifi was actually enabled all the time but when you are in range then it's connected?

Yes. You need to enable the GPS in order to allow the phone to detect your location and switch on and off the WiFi, it will connect to your WiFi when you have save the respective WiFi connection at that respective location.

I have explained this before...

Its based on signal tower triangulation. by wifi range.
You should enable Location services.

my Xperia z suddenly died on me. Can't power up at all. thought have to
go service centre but luckily google is your best friend. you need to hard reset'
press down power button and volume up together. the phone is back to normal
again. Hope Sony fixes this issue soon.

anyone else encountered this?

Did you update to the latest firmware? It should fix the issue if you have update to the latest firmware.

Hmm well maybe I am wrong, but Sony did roll out a patch but from the news I read before, this patch is not the one that solve the sleep or death issue...

Not sure whether .434 is to fix the death issue as there is no update log.
