Role:
As an Experience Designer (MXD) you deliver experiences to the highest quality possible while developing your craft. Your role involves:
exercising an intellectual curiosity;
demonstrating a willingness to learn and effectively take direction;
championing usercentered
design (UCD) processes and techniques;
interacting with clients; and,
collaborating with interdisciplinary project teams to create innovative solutions
You are developing the knowledge, skill-set, and experience to autonomously deliver UCD solutions. Occasionally you also participate in pitch efforts. In doing so, you work with creative teams and other disciplines to prepare and deliver presentations. You’re responsible for quality, consistency and design excellence in your work.
As a MXD, you’re focused on building a baseline of experience across the XD spectrum. Your ability to demonstrate advancement in these areas of specialisation will contribute to your progression to the role of Senior Experience Designer (SrXD). The ultimate responsibilities of a MXD are to deliver outstanding work; hone your skills; and, develop in an area of specialisation. SrXDs contribute to a positive culture of continuous improvement, curiosity and the pursuit of excellence.

Responsibilities:
— are fundamentally curious
— communicate clearly, constructively, and promptly (oral, visual, and written)
— sketch your ideas and thoughts (and refer back to them)
— understand design must serve a goal
— solve defined problems within a set of constraints
— listen respectfully and take direction (direction style: ‘be a sherpa, not a shepherd’)
— provide reasonably accurate time estimates (and a timesheet)
— identify opportunities for impact (for people, clients, the XD team)
— have a strong sense of craft
— work well with others and independently
— build and manage client/stakeholder relationships
— present work with compelling narrative and rationale
— critique and provide feedback to others
— consider key design characteristics for every project (concept, craft, communication, process, and empathy)
— have the basics of graphic design under your belt (balance, proximity, alignment, repetition, contrast, space, etc.)
— have the basics of user-centred design under your belt (gather info [research], try things [prototype], test [user feedback] and iterate, etc.)
— know a bit about psychology (perception/cognition and social behaviour)
— know enough about the history of design to get by
— have the basics of computer science down (you’ve dabbled with code)
— focus on continuous improvement
— look for inspiration everywhere, not just online
— have a keen eye on the future of technology (the merging of digital and physical)
— are passionate, motivated
