A Japanese man once told me Okinawa is the "countryside of Japan" so parking is mostly free outside of Naha.

Even in Naha I managed to find free parking in many places except for Kokusai-dori, where there are the usual street parking with the "flap" on the ground. You just pay via the cash machine just before you leave - prices much, much lower than Tokyo/Kyoto etc.

No need ETC when there's only one expressway from Okinawa South to Nago. Just take ticket upon entry toll and pay cash at exit toll (Malaysia NSH-style)

The folks in Okinawa drive really slow. Your patience will be tested along Route 58

parking is mostly free outside of naha city. i remember only paying for american village. manzamo and ocean expo are free. those that need to pay, just pay by cash.

not much point driving in naha city. traffic is bad and have to pay for parking. kokusai dori is easily accessible by train.

i didnt get ETC also. and yes, the okinawa ppl drive really slow. and hardly have chance to overtake coz it is mostly single line road. so just slow down and enjoy the scenic coastal drive
