I have 3 of these monitors

https://www.cnet.com/products/acer-g245hq-abd/specs/

to make 120hz work, I need to use DVI-D 24+1 pin

back in the day I was running 580 SLI and then 780 TI SLI... since I was always SLI, I had access to at least 3 DVI-D gpu outputs...

I want to upgrade to a new GPU, but starting the 980 it always has only 1 DVI-D per GPU... (so even if I SLI, I can only have access to max 2 DVI-D)

is there a way for me to use the DP outputs? I've tried cheapo passive DVI to DP and they don't work... do I need to buy DVI to DP active adapters or bite the bullet and buy DVI to DP cables?

need help... don't want to order adapter or cables that won't eventually work

thanks!

could a typo with cnet... trust me, you can't enable 3d surround if you are not on 120 hz...

anyway back to the topic... do you know of a way to convert dvi-d to dp and still get 120hz?

So u mean driver can force monitor hardware to OC its Max refresh rates?

Well I sthink that best u get those active adapter. (As they usually should be able to work well.

so I bought this --> https://www.startech.com/AV/Display...ual-Link-DVI-Video-Adapter-Converter~DP2DVID2

trBpFj7.jpg

very pricey... but It was my last chance to make my existing 3ple screen rig work with new GPUs (just got 1070 SLI)...

so yeah it works... I can get 3 x 1980 x 1080 @ 120hz.... non-3D the only issues I get is that it there is a slight lag when the game is loading (like the monitors are taking a bit of time to display the game, only at initial loading of the game)...

in 3D though, a bit of a let down... on the monitor hooked up to the adapter, the ghosting is quite noticeable... I do 100% strength depth 3D (yeah i'm so used to 3D, movie Real 3D is just too 'weak' for me)... the ghosting too much... it only gets 'usable' if you set at about 25% depth.... (tried on 2 games... warframe & MechWarrior online)

all-in-all at least it gives me a few more years with my existing 3ple screen rig... will only upgrade the monitors much much later on...
