Hi guys, my mum has been using prepaid cards for ages and recently heard her complaining about the prepaid card balance finishing within a month (Starhub $18). So I was thinking if she can move to a SIM ONLY, and it is $13.95/month with 100mins and 300mb data. (But not sure if that 100mins is sufficient for her)

Then with the 2G network closed, we gave her a S2 to use but the S2 also uplorry within few months after giving it to her.

Right now we want her to try to learn how to use smartphones as compared to feature phones. However she does not have much education, so texting is a problem. I was thinking that Whatsapp voice will be very useful in this instance. So will the 300mb be sufficient for whatsapp?

So right now I am thinking whether to upgrade her from the existing prepaid $18/month to postpaid SIM only plans? Will this be better in the long-run?

Btw, i just saw Starhub prepaid has this free unlimited data, what is that about?

Get Happy55 @ $15 for 50 days.

$40 worth of local call/sms credit if it is enough.

If is not enough you need to know the use case.

Switch to SingTel lo. The new $18 top up comes with 1000 mins (outgoing + incoming calls), 1GB data and 500 SMS for a month. 30 days validity, so it's priced slightly cheaper than StarHub 4G 3 SIM-only ($19.30/mth including CID), which only have 100 mins outgoing calls, unlimited free incoming calls, 300MB data and 500 SMS/MMS.

More worth than StarHub SIM-only. Network also much better.

(Yes, people that think I'm always promoting M1, you saw it correctly. This time SingTel's prepaid plan is more value for money than rivals for this segment, so I've to mention it. It's always about value-for-money, not the brand, unless it is damn bad.)

If Singtel Prepaid reached 1GB traffic, will it stop or continue deducting from the balance?

SingTel one is $18 but 30 days validity leh, M1 $18 top up the 500MB is 30 days but main balance 6 months, can buy more data ma!

SingTel / M1 / StarHub all will not cut the internet connection until all applicable balances are wiped out.

(Answer once and for all.)

... 10q 2 u !

Eh.. I got another question.
If the data is an add-on, when it reaches the end of the validity period, will using the data be ceased?

Eh... pls see my added question.
Yes, all data balances will become zero if you did not extend before expiry.

Don't go for singtel if you need fast speed. Go for M1 or starhub as they are 4g for all data plans. Singtel only certain 1 got 4g speed, like the top up bonus account $18 (only for 30 days). If you top up main account, the free 500mb is only 3g speed, and i believe the 7 days/30 days data plan also on 3g (otherwise they will state 4g).

I am going to ditch singtel once my prepaid balance goes to 0....
Not really. SingTel requires you to buy their 4G SIM card to get 4G speeds, regardless of data balance type.

Last time I learn the hard way also, don't know how SingTel works, get the SingTel GSM SIM card, use for years on a 3G/UMTS handset, then have to change number entirely to get SingTel 3G.

Yes, M1 and StarHub all SIM cards are 4G enabled now, but SingTel still sells 3G SIMs alongside the 4G SIMs, separately.

Note: 4G SIM can use 4G/3G locally (and overseas 2G if there's agreement).

Thanks lohsenglte for the sharp and thorough analysis. Really appreciate it.

I think for the upcoming month gonna monitor her usage. Will 1GB data sufficient for voice memos on WA?

Just bought her a Redmi 4A, can see she is very happy to have a new phone.

You're welcome! :)

Should be enough, unless videos lol, then no guarantees alr.

Most voice memos are just in the kBs, unless is music files.

Haha, my singtel sim about 7 years old. But there is actually not much difference between 3g and 4g sim, only the storage size either 32k, 64k or 128k, and its for storing contacts only, not for speed. I guess they need to squeeze more $ from user to change to 4g sim.

Anyway, like what you have said earlier in another thread, instead of paying for the sim change, might as well port over to starhub or m1 as its free and its definitely 4g sim :)
Yeah they want to squeeze $38 more from you to upgrade to the 4G SIM hahaha.

1gb more than enough for text and photo Whatsppls as photo Whatsppls is scaled down quality

Unless video or voice Whatsppls call and fb then 1gb easy can over shot

Even game is ok and wifi home to dl and update

Have you tried asking them if the SIM replacement fee will be topped up into main balance?
I will avoid starhub anyway, for the same reason as yours and many conflicting nonsense from various CSO. Most importantly no news they will top-up the SIM replacement fee in main balance, just in case you need to change again.

$26.75 to $37.45 SIM Card replacement will not be topped into your account.

If they actually top up into your account, Postpaid customers have the rights to ask for that to happen also, since we paid much more per month on the subscription.

Yeah, I did the upgrade.
The $38 you pay will place in your main credit account. Technically speaking is foc but you are force to fork out $38 in up front.
Last time it was just $20 for $38 upgrade on SingTel, but promotion has ended (long ago I think) and it became $38 for $38.

But then again, it cost only $15 or less for 4G on M1 and StarHub...

I called Singtel Prepaid to replace my 13 year old POD Prepaid SIM with new 4G 3 in 1 SIM for free.

I nego with them that I want to request a wavier for SIM replacement for free, after review my case, they granted free replacement.

Now happily using the same number with 4G support on Redmi Note 4.
