Old MacBook

Hi All

I have an old Macbook from 2009 which still works

It is the white MacBook5,2
Intel Core 2 Duo
Running on 10.5.8

Does anyone know if it is possible to update the software? If I run software update, it says it is up to date. I also read that this model can only go up to 10.5.8 but I do not know if this is really the case

If the software can be updated, I don't mind upgrading the ram and putting an SSD in this but if the software is already maxed out then maybe I won't bother

I find it hard to throw away an old laptop that still works even if i already have too much junk in the house!

according to MacTracker app, 5,2 is able to update to Yosemite.

you have to go to App store and try to install Yosemite. If your model is not allowed, the installation will tell you and abort installation.

what i did in the end was to plug in my old mbp hdd which had yosemite already installed. It worked although it is slow.
will attempt to do this with a ssd and additional ram to see what happens.

this is a interesting solution. I will attempt to do it this way. wish me luck.

never though of doing that but lazy to open my macbook pro

prolly just let it run Mountain Lion lo cause my white macbook is like an antique at home. just that it's working but has no purpose since we upgraded already

if its working. just clean up the data and reformat to sell or donate to charity. no point waste space at home.

I wouldnt have bothered too for the same reason but if it can be upgraded i will recycle by giving to kids.
