OLD PSU

I recently changed my psu cuz it died. 6 years old and out of warranty.

Any ideas of what to do with it besides throw away?

It's spoilt, so either throw away or put into an e-waste bin if there is one nearby.

Some capacitor can be re-used too.

1) strip the rubber, then consolidate the copper. can sell to karang guni.
2) take out the psu fan, can be reuse.
3) test the capacitors see whether still working or not. if working, desolder and keep it as spare.
4) take the heatsink out, depends on the size, u can use it to cool other component.

Just throw it. The components inside can be dangerous, not worth endangering yourself over the however few cents worth of components you can salvage.

I ever used a ALLIED brand 350w PSU that come combo with a cheapo ATX casing before..

Everything powered on nicely and the I heard a POP sound and then everything go off...

In the end, my motherboard and rams goes dead together with my PSU

Luckily my CPU still working and I use onboard graphics and so no GPU

Moral of story , don't play play with old, faulty PSUs or PSUs from unknown brands
