Old rig
CPU ~ i5-4440
MOBO ~ AsRock b85m Pro4
GFX ~ GTX 760 oc 2gb
PSU ~ Seasonic M12ii 520W
SSD ~ Crucial m500 120gb
RAM ~ 1 X 8gb G skill CL11 1600mhz

New rig
CPU ~ i5-4570
MOBO ~ MSI b85 g43 gaming
GFX ~ ASUS R9 280X
PSU ~ Seasonic G series 650W
SSD ~ Plextor 128gb
RAM ~ Avexir 2x4GB CL9 1600mhz

Vital information are all there. i am not sure why but the performance seems to be lacking during start up time. Both system using windows 8.1.

Gaming wise, new rig is better. but im just curious on why my asrock is able to start up much faster as compared to msi board.

Probably you got more junk on your computer? My computer started in under 9 seconds when it was new. After installing some games and using about 150gb memory, it now starts in about 12 seconds.

if you are talking about boot times, asrock boards seem to boot very fast compared to others. sometime i cant even see the post screen before it already load windows.
anyway, your "old" and "new" rig have very similar specs, just the graphic card of the "new" rig is more powerful.

Can vouch for this. Using asrock board also and it gets to windows 8.1 tile screen in like 5-7 seconds. Amazing.

Simple. That is because asrock post time is very fast. It is faster than the msi or any other boards out there.

The actual load time will also depends on the ssd.

M500 will load more faster over the plextor. Plextor has a slower read speed over m500.

Also take note that the faster the post time. The faster the com will start loading os.

hmmm then is there a way to drop the post time?? damn, now im regretting a little that i changed to the MSI board.. though aesthetic wise, they win hands down.

Asrock post time is way faster. my msi m power very slow.

My bro however with intel 530 240gb has faster loading speed even though he's on msi gaming. Msi mpower post time slower than gaming.

actually some asrock boards look good too. for eg the asrock b85 killer has the same colour scheme as the msi b85 gaming. usually the fatal1ty series are red/black scheme

No, there isnt any way to reduce it.

Cause they are taking their necessary time to check more components before booting up. the fastest is Asrock ITX boards.

They got nothing to check. Only 1 pcie slot for gpu, check cpu, check rams, etc.

That is why the higher end boards like asus maximus formula or mpower board will take more time to post.

In terms of post time

Asrock > MSI > Giga > Asus.

Also depends on models. Some are fast some are slightly slower.

go to kitchen take a cold drink, come back, at windows desktop liao.

Yes precisely the point.

The post timing are not really important factor to compare. Different boards check different things before booting up. Give and take this is a precautionary measures taken to make sure things are working well before booting up.

Most importantly it will be good enough to support your needs. The few seconds differs should not affect you.

Unless you want to make tea while waiting for the mobo to boot, don't get an Asus board ;)

I believe its the way the various brands handles their POST, so there's no way to modify that. Also a friendly feature of Asrock boards is that first few POST's will stay at the POST screen longer so you can get into the BIOS easy if need be, only the subsequent POST's are super fast. You can try resetting the CMOS battery to check it out :D

What logic is this? My Asrock e4m clears POST in about 1-2 seconds max too even though it theoretically has "3 more PCIe and 2 more PCI slots" than the ITX, and also I'm sure it clears POST way much faster than something similar from Asus like V Gene, so by this logic my e4m is turbo charged hence it can do much more at the same speed? :s8:
