Will there be a big difference between using old and new SSD for caching?
Intend to upgrade to hdd+ssd combo.. but can't seem to find any results online!!
I guess you are referring to sata2 SSD vs sata3 SSD for virtual memory?
Sata 3 bandwidth is twice sata2 at 6gbps and they are faster on benchmarks. But real world applications, you wouldn't notice the 'big' difference.
As for virtual memory, it always better to have more RAM than faster virtual memory. If your RAM is sufficient for your usage, having the fastest SSD will not help. And similarly, if your RAM is too low, with the system hitting virtual memory all the time, you may 'kill' your SSD eventually as they all have a finite write cycles.
Bottom line, there are minuscule improvement upgrading your existing sata2 SSD to sata3 SSD, you might be better off investing in RAM.
