The OnePlus 15 will get a new camera design, as the company allegedly plans to ditch a circular design in favor of a rectangular one. That’s not surpirsing considering the OnePlus 13T aka OnePlus 13s design, though.

The OnePlus 15 is coming later this year, and based on a new report, it will feature a major change on the back. The information comes from Digital Chat Station, by the way, one of the most prominent Chinese tipsters.

The OnePlus 15 will ditch circular camera design, it seems

His post claims that OnePlus plans to ditch a circular camera island. The OnePlus 15 will, instead, feature a rounded-corner rectangle-shaped island, which will sit in the top-left corner of the phone.

If that sounds familiar, well, the OnePlus 13T aka OnePlus 13s has such a camera design. So, as far as the shape is concerned, that’s what we’ll likely get on the OnePlus 15. Chances are it will be a bit bigger, though.

Some reports suggested that the OnePlus 15 will not feature Hasselblad co-branding, and thus not the company’s help. However, since then, OnePlus and Hasselblad have prolonged their partnership, so… chances are Hasselblad will be included in the mix.

The phone is also tipped to feature a lower-res display compared to the OnePlus 13. It will be a great panel, though, allegedly, with LIPO tech and very thin bezels around. A 1.5K resolution is expected.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip is tipped, along with a huge battery

A 50-megapixel main camera is also tipped, along with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor. A 7,000mAh-7,500mAh battery is rumored, though it remains to be seen how accurate that info is. The phone will also support 100W wired charging, and likely 50W wireless charging.

You’ll also notice that the OnePlus 14 model is getting skipped. The number ‘4’ is considered to be unlucky in China, which is why. OnePlus did use it thus far, but only for only for some devices. It skipped the OnePlus 4 as well, we skipped from the OnePlus 3 to OnePlus 5 way back in the day.

The OnePlus 15 is expected to launch towards the end of the year, but it will not reach global markets until Q1 next year… at least that was the case in the last couple of years with the company’s flagships.

New leaks suggest the upcoming OnePlus 15 will feature a ceramic-coated frame that is up to four times stronger than titanium. This focus on extreme durability and performance, with a 165Hz display and a 7,000mAh battery, but with potential camera downgrades, signals a new strategy for the company’s flagships, aiming for better pricing.

Recent reports suggest that the upcoming OnePlus 15 will take a different approach to its design and features. The device could focus on raw performance over certain other aspects. Previous leaks have pointed to some potential downgrades in the camera department, for instance. However, a new report from reliable tech tipster Digital Chat Station suggests the phone’s build quality will not be compromised, as its frame will boast a ceramic coating up to 4x more resistant than titanium.

OnePlus 15 tipped to adopt a ceramic frame for ultimate durability

The tipster already had a hands-on of a OnePlus 15 unit. They were able to confirm that its body will feature a new ceramic coating on its middle frame. This is a significant detail, as the tipster claims this material is four times stronger than titanium. This choice stands out in the current market, where several premium phones have adopted titanium frames to improve strength while keeping weight down. A ceramic coating, likened to “tempered pottery,” could offer an even higher level of durability.

For reference, the iPhone Air, which has a titanium frame, passed JerryRigEverything’s extreme durability tests with flying colors. This is impressive considering the handset’s ultra-thin body. So, if the leak is true, you can expect an even higher level of durability in the OnePlus 15.

The report also offers some additional details about the design and finish of the OnePlus 15. According to the post, the OnePlus 15 will feature a larger, rounded, and flat display with even thinner bezels than those on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The phone will also reportedly include a new desert-themed color with a high-quality texture. This particular finish would be inspired by the movie DUNE.

Overall, these leaks suggest the OnePlus 15 is charting a new course. The phone appears to be prioritizing a sturdy build and top-tier performance to stand out in the competitive flagship market while reevaluating its approach to the camera experience.

Expected key specs

This focus on a stronger build seems to be part of a broader strategy. The OnePlus 15 will be a performance powerhouse, with rumors pointing to a top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. It would also have a smooth 165Hz OLED display and a massive 7,000mAh battery.

However, these high-end specs may come with a tradeoff. Previous reports have indicated that the phone’s camera system could see some changes, including a smaller 3x telephoto lens and a possible downgrade to the main sensor. The company is also reportedly ending its long-standing partnership with Hasselblad in favor of its own in-house image processing brand, “DetailMax.” That said, this would be in favor of offering an aggressive price tag to compete against other flagship phones.

OnePlus has officially confirmed that the OnePlus 15 will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and feature a 165Hz display, emphasizing “Ultra Performance.” The company also revealed a Fengchi gaming kernel, signaling a stronger focus on gaming than ever before. While still not a dedicated gaming phone, the OnePlus 15 looks poised to deliver one of the best mobile gaming experiences yet. It’s expected to launch in China this October, with a global debut in early 2026.

OnePlus has just confirmed some OnePlus 15 details, with a surprising gaming twist. OnePlus released teasers that confirm the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC will fuel the phone, while a 165Hz display will be included too.

The OnePlus 15 will utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, and a 165Hz display

That’s something we pretty much knew already. The OnePlus 15 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 popped up on Geekbench, not to mention that OnePlus uses Qualcomm’s best chip for its flagship smartphone every year.

Furthermore, there were several indications that a 165Hz display will be used. Rumors were saying so, while the company’s exec hinted it, too. In fact, we know that the OnePlus 15 will utilize BOE’s next-gen ‘Oriental Screen’.

Confirmations are always nice to have, though. OnePlus even used the phone’s name this time around, while the company teased ‘Ultra Performance’ thanks to the new chip and a 165Hz display.

A gaming kernel has also been confirmed

That’s not all, though. There is also a gaming twist here, as mentioned earlier. The phone will ship with a Fengchi gaming kernel, which puts even more focus on the gaming aspect here. While OnePlus’ flagships were always great for gaming, they were never gaming smartphones per se.

The OnePlus 15 will be one of the first smartphones to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. We’re not sure when will the phone launch, but it’s coming in the near future. It’s expected to arrive in October, though the exact launch date is still unknown.

As a reminder, that will be its launch in China, not its global launch. The global launch event is expected to follow in the first quarter of next year. That’s what the company did last year, and that’s almost certainly what’s coming this year.

Speaking of which, the phone’s design was seemingly revealed quite recently. It will be notably different than what the OnePlus 13 offered.

i kind of like the design and colors, but the main camera lens like not upgrading, will still be using back LYT 808
If it's true, then that would be the biggest disappointment and miss for a lot of ppl. Tbh, even a imx989 would be good for the brand. And tbh I still dun understand the general stagnation of camera sensors that only vivo x200pro and ultra gave, and if reusing 808 is true, for 3 phones in total no change.
