I think oneplus 2 camera is the best liao right now for its price. Of course cannot win galaxy series and iphone and g4 but compare to other android phones it is better.

Hopefully OP will continue improve the camera software even further. The auto focus could be a little faster and the white balance for both picture and video needs some work. But so far I'm satisfied with what's out of the box. But this thing takes some really great HDR shots.

Have you tried with a diff camera app, e.g., open camera, camera FV5, camera awesome, etc?

I got a One Plus 2 invite.
Letting them go for a token sum.

PM me if interested.

Hehe. Wrong place wrong product. I was on 3 million queue number, registered in mid August and even I got the invite last weekend. Suffice to say oneplus 2 invites are not as valuable as you might think.
Maybe try iPhone 6s 😂

is the picture quality controlled by the camera firmware or by the app?

eg if the manufacturer releases lousy camera firmware (hint HTC M9), can it be remedied by installing 3rd party app?

AFAIK, most of the camera apps just use the libs that come with the phone, except for Color OS cam which got its own libs, hence there may be differences.

Having said that, different cam apps offer different features. OP2 cam app is very limited, it's basically just a modified version of Google camera app, as compared to say Camera FV5 which offers plenty of manual controls.

Not yet, but I will probably test with Camera FV-5 when I have the time. Dont use official Google camera app can already, that one sucks :s13:

Yes and no. As stated in above post, depends on the camera lib and various other tweaks and optimisations the developer used in their software. The ColorOS cam made the OPO camera look better than it should where as the official Google camera app made it look like it came out of a Nexus 5. But it won't improve your photos to the point where it looks as if your OPO has OIS, because OIS is a hardware thing and the OPO does not have that.

Bottom line is yes, software can affect picture quality, but only within the limitations of your phone's camera hardware.

so ur saying that i dont need to wait for the manufacturer to release an update to fix camera issues like sharpness of images or high noise reduction?

i get that hardware features cant be produced in software like large aperture or OIS. but for 2 phones by different manufacturer but with identical 13mp sensors, 1 produces clear sharp images while the other produces photos that are noticably less sharp, can the less sharp camera be helped by app or is it a firmware level problem that only the manufacturer can solve?

I would say sharpness or noise reduction in images, dont expect a big improvement if there is a camera app update. Because it is more on the hardware limitation. Usually the app that is produced by the manufacturers has been best catered to the camera sensor on the phone.

But for OPT , i feel it is already very good in terms of sharpness and lowlight performance so that is no need any more noise reduction. But i think they should really change the camera UI. It is awful and i really miss the slow shutter and pro mode that was availabe on OPO. If the sensor allows it, they should include in the app.

thats the thing... there are cases where a camera update was able to achieve better photos so it means the original app was not optimised.

but ok if the default app is the one that controls the pictures then i guess using a different app may help.

i always thot that the apps are merely reading the sensor data given to them and that there needs to be an update of the underlying firmware that is closer to the hardware. something like directx12 or mantle API

light --> sensor --> firmware --> app
or
light --> sensor --> app

In this case, yes the less sharp one can probably be helped by improving the software as both cameras are exactly alike.

Anyway the stock camera app on the OP2 is already pretty good, they just need to work on the UI (Which I believe already had a minor update in OxygenOS 2.0.2) and they can definitely have room for more options for power users.

I think OP has forgotten the meaning of flagship. You need all the latest technology inputs and charge low price for OP to get more user. Where the 2k screen, fast charge & nfc? And their fingerprint scanner not the press type, ok fair enough at least gotten it to work.

Surely the hype of the phone is gone.

disagree.

by that logic sony released their 4k screen so OP should put a 4k screen on the OPthree? :s13:

coming from a person who switched my flagship and 1440p for a phone that cost 1/3 and 1080p, i stare and stare and cant tell the difference even for text.

what i can tell is that the 1080p and 1440p phones both have 3000mah batteries but the 1080p lasts for 4.5hr and the 1440p lasts for at best 3hr screen on time. thats the difference between worrying about finding an outlet and feeling shiok knowing u dont need to top up till the end of the day.

making the best decision vs going with the flow

apple seems to be doing that the best even (retina 300+ppi is good enuf) though sometimes it gets it wrong (8mp camera in 2014? 16gb base model in 2015? cmon...)

just bcos OP is a new company and trying to build an equivalent marketing campaign as apple doesnt mean they are flawless

fyi i dont own a OPT or OPO cos i cant wait for their invite system to pick me... i was 600k+ in queue and still hv not receive invite..

OnePlus 2 Ultra Slim Smoothie Tempered Glass Screen Protector

Running on Oxygen OS is much more smoother and cleaner. The metal finishing seem to be more polish and shinny too.
