You ownself have to weigh the pros and cons. For a price of aprrox. $500 off contract, there is no other phone in the market that is comparable to OnePlus. The 2 closest are probably Oppo Find7 and LG G3 but these 2 brand new sets costs around 200 bucks more(though you can get a 2nd hand Find7 for around $560-580). Yes, no local warranty can be a bummer, but i think the bigger concern is the inconsistent QC from the OnePlus production line. So you better pray you dont get a super lemon set. On the other hand, nowadays alot people change their phones within 6 months to 1 year, maybe even less. To them, got warranty no warranty, makes no difference. For long term users like me, no local warranty is a major consideration which is why i am putting off buying this phone.

Another pointer to add is that OnePlus One phone has no trade in value if you decided to sell off this phone at the later stage.

Actually what you said also came into my though when I received this OnePlus invite few days ago. I was also stuck in choosing between LG G3 and OnePlus-One phone. My gut tell me that I should go for LG G3 for peace of mind due to local warranty and support.

As people know that OnePlus Company don’t ship phone to Singapore, I have to use US Forwarder Company to ship the phone to Singapore. This may be another S$30-S$40 extra to the total cost.

If you factor in all the shipping cost and phone cost, the total cost will be approximate about $530-$550. In my personal view, the total cost to purchase this phone don’t look attractive worth to me.
In the end I decided to order the OnePlus One phone as invite don't come knocking at my door every day. If I get a "non-lemon" set during my 2 years usage, then good for me. Actually at this stage , I still thinking if I make the right choice to order the OPO Set.

looks like you also order liao, same as me!
i think there's a few avenue of approach. Because the phone doesnt come the next day, we can still decided if u want to use the phone or not.

Like myself, i might be selling it off BNIB after the views shared by the bros and sis here. Not so much of the value thing.. but i think the other major china brands wont hold its value well as well..

Like, 1 year later OPPO and oneplus value shouldnt be so much of a difference right? (the amount it depreciates)

OnePlus value sld hold firm in the immediate future(maybe 2-3months) mainly becuz of demand and availability. Demand high and availability low, seller can dictate the price. For Oppo's case, the demand is so-so only and probably due to the previous flash sales conducted by Lazada, at one point the market was flooded with brand new and used sets, driving down the selling price for the phone. The depreciation of value for Oppo phones is pretty drastic. Today you buy brand new for $700, next day you sell you make a least $100 loss. But say if you are talking about 1 year later, I think definitely no value even if in prestige condition since by then much better models will be available in the market.

Personally i feel that if the phone you receive has no issues whatsoever, unless you feel you need to make a small profit out of selling the phone, why not just keep it for personally use. Nowadays telco subsidies for contracted phones is getting pathetic unless you are on higher tier plans. Its really pointless getting bound by a 2 year contract just to "enjoy" a small discount upfront on phone prices. Not to mention telcos are regularly shifting the goalposts by imposing new charges for their services. I much rather buy off contract phone so that i am free of any contract obligations.

Sure going to use this for at least a year. Very snappy and size is a little huge but good in the hands.

Still a little buggy. Today suddenly WIFI hanged, keep showing my school WIFI when i was already home. but nothing a reboot can't fix.

i think the values for android phone drop drastically after one purchase it, so no matter what, we should just get something value for money. i didn't regret not getting the LG G3, firstly because of the software update support. It seems that manufacturers do not bother to keep the android users to the most updated software of android and like someone just posted that one plus is updating us to 4.4.4 which is the latest when compared to a nexus 5.

so i think its very value for money if you manage to get an invite. been using for 1 week, didn't regret my decision.
