Haha I know. But it's good to share your privilege with your other half mah when flying.

So far is oneworld okay? I go for this as I'm regular now on Cathay pacific which is part of their partner.

Technically speaking, benefits are only awarded to the status holder. However some airlines do provide to the 2nd person in the same ticket but it's only out of goodwill.

As a Ruby member, the useful benefit is priority check-in and boarding.

Yeah Oneworld is okay, just that they are the smallest alliance out of the three alliances.

The only problem with Cathay Pacific is that Marco Polo Club Green members (Just pay USD$100 to join on a yearly basis) also have priority boarding so the lines are usually as long as the non-status people lol....

I guess my partner is luckier then.
I'm a oneworld Sapphire while the partner is status-less with oneworld.
We were both upgraded when flying CX and MH before.

You guys are lucky, as a Oneworld Sapphire (MH Gold) I've never been upgraded on MH or CX before except once on CX from Economy to Premium Economy on the return flight from HKG-SIN. And that was like 3-4 years ago hehe.

I learnt that the key is to fly during super peak period (eg long weekend trip).

Okay so fly during peak periods and don't do online check-in? What if you get stuck in a middle seat?

Hmm.. curious, which of the better alliance that offers more attractive perks?

Looking at Cathay here, seems quite alot of ppl get upgraded as well.

I used to be Krisflyer FF/ Star Alliance, but later put in store cuz the ticket price is humongously high...

when i check in online, there is only 3seats left ...
the seats available are all around the place ...
then i check in online halfway, i stopped, so my boarding pass is not being generated ...
my friend and i are ok to sit separately , cox now the situation already lidat

then i told my friend to check in late late lol
one hour before departure go take boarding pass
guess tat time the 3 seats are left taken already

I'm still a fan of checking in online - precisely as you said I prefer to be able to choose my seats. Then again for CX, as a OWS you should be able to select your seats before OLCI opens.

All my upgrades are after checking in online.

I think CX forum in flyertalk had a thread discussing CX's op-up practice, which sounds quite complicated.

IMO perks are about the same for elite members of different alliances namely priority standby, priority check in, priority luggage handling, additional luggage allowances, lounge access, priority boarding etc, of course with different caveats here and there for different alliance and airlines. Better chance of getting an upgrade is not publicise as the official perk but most airline will try to upgrade status members of their airline and of the alliance first where possible. And airline will not actively upgrade even their elite members if the flight is not oversold.

For me I choose alliance which I can achieve status in, and alliance which I will fly with most to get the most out of the perks.

One world isn't too bad.

I'm only BAEC bronze status cos I'm a Y flyer. Mostly flying on BA, Cathay and Qantas.

Much cheaper than flying SQ and earning KF miles.
