Those who prefer traditional cash gifting can reserve new and Fit-for-Gifting[1] notes (Fit notes) via the bank’s online reservation portal starting 17 January and collect the notes from 24 January onwards. Customers can also obtain these notes at any one of the 72 pop-up ATMs in DBS/POSB self-service branches and community centres[2] from 24 January onwards. These pop-up ATMs are in addition to the current network of over 1,200 DBS/POSB ATMs where customers can withdraw cash round-the-clock.

Google translate: Another member of the public, Lin Huifang (42 years old, trading manager), also tried to make an online banknote exchange appointment for the first time this year. She logged on to the DBS Bank website at about 00:10 to make an appointment, but found that the collection slots at the bank branches near her home were all booked.

Lin Huifang said that since she can't get new banknotes, she doesn't mind using old banknotes, as long as the banknotes are not too wrinkled or stained. “The important thing is to convey your blessings to family and friends.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong also posted on Facebook, encouraging the public to try using "applicable banknotes" or switch to electronic red envelopes when preparing red envelopes, which can preserve tradition and be more environmentally friendly.

Start charging fees for notes exchange. All these queues will magically disappear. Save the environment too.

Boomers will chiong if something is free.
