Hey all,

It's been like 7-8 years since my last PC build and back then it's more economical to DIY and purchase parts from SLS...

Is it better to purchase individual parts through Lazada/Amazon these days? Or still better to go to SLS?

Amazon is a bit ex once you factor in shipping (new video cards are cheaper)

Lazada seems the way to go

online for me. got my EVGA GTX1070 SC for just $480, $225 for asus z270F from amazon. other get from lazada especially the recent deal w Fuzzie. can save $40 for every $200 part, $60 for every $300 part. check that lazada thread.

Simlim retails are expensive for most of the parts, dont think can give so much discount. Only thing can get from simlim maybe is the mobo + cpu combo. If you are warrenty-is-a-must guy, then you better shop from lazada or simlim.

Over a year ago, I got the following in SGD:

$85 | Sandisk Ultra 2, 240gb SSD
$120| 16GB DDR3 ram 1600mhz
$80 | Cloud 2 headset
$180| 3TB WD Black HDD

I just bought a set DDR4 16gb 3000mhz rams for $160. Compare with local price lists, the differences add up.

I bought PSU, GPU, SSD, HDD, RAM, case, keyboard, mouse and mouse pad all online via Lazada/Amazon. For the latter, I only choose free shipping option. It's much cheaper then going Sim Lim Square. I saved nearly $400 in total. Only drawback is you need to cater waiting time for parts to arrive. Only thing I haven't found is a better mobo and CPU combo then Sim Lim Square...

Same. I bought my majority of my components online.

Amazon: PSU, RAM, Mouse
Lazada: GPU, SSD, Case

The only thing I bought directly from SLS is Mobo+Processor combo.

Same. Have not visited sls for a long time. The latest build for my son I bought everything online from lazada, qoo10, amazon, ebay and taobao. The main concern is DOA for overseas items. Otherwise very shiok, just sit at home and press keys click mouse.

Bought most of my stuff from amazon / lazada / qoo10. Only went sls for cpu + mobo or collection from qoo10.

Best was buying ram from amazon back when 16GB 2666MHz ram was only $85 SGD. Could have bought 2 sets from amazon instead if buying at local price.

Remember they are not mutually exclusive. A bunch of SLS shops are online now also. Take advantage of coupons offered by the shopping platforms, cos you can't get those in store. Like someone mentioned, sometimes I also buy online, but go SLS collect. Haha.

Bought my parts from carousel, qoo10 and amazon.

Only bought cpu mobo from pc themes in sls.

Rams can buy from amazon. Previously bought 16gb 3200mhz corsair dominator platinum rams at only 99usd with free shipping during during black friday sale. Its like only $140 sgd compare to sim lim selling the same rams at i think 250?

Gfx, monitor, bought at qoo10 using discounted coupons, qpoints + credit card online rebate.

Ultimately online definitely better if u know how and when to purchase stuff.
