Hello all,

I'm a university student starting school this year, and I need to get a laptop for my studies.

Currently looking at these 2 models of Ultrabook that are offered on promotion by my school:

2m network cable

External USB optical scroll mouse

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Edition (64bit) comes default with the notebook.
Windows 7 Enterprise

3 years warranty for battery

($1,423.10 w/GST)

ASPIRE S3-391

Intel®Core™i5-

TurboBoost up to
2.70GHz, 3MB L3

4GB DDR3 RAM

500GB SATA HDD

13.3” HD Acer
CineCrystal™ LEDbacklit

1.36Kg

2m network cable
Carrying case
External USB optical scroll mouse

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Edition (64bit) comes default with the notebook.
Windows 7 Enterprise

3 years international warranty (including parts and labour)
3 years warranty for battery

(1378.16 w/GST)

What do you guys think about these 2 Ultrabooks in terms of price/quality?

Are there any other similar ultrabook that you can recommend that you had a positive experience with?

For reference here is what I am looking for in the ultrabook:

1) Long Lasting (Hopefully can last at least 3-4 years)

2) Price can be anything under 1.7k

3) Does not lag easily when running word processing/excel etc

4) Weight should be under 2kg, ideally under 1.5kg

Thanks for your help!

Go for either Asus UX32VD or UX31A.

UX32VD comes with dedicated graphic card 1.45kg
UX31A no dedicated graphic card 1.3kg

If you dont play heavy graphics games, go for UX31A for lightweight

Get ux32vd! Super awesome. Bought mine at pc show for 1.3k plus 8gb ram upgrade.

Best ultrabook to vie with mba.

If u considering getting 32vd go change the hdd to ssd if nt u find that the batt life is pretty short and boot time not fast enough haha!

Take the Portege Z930. It's still one of the best out there.

dude, do you have a budget in mind? you looking at the same price range ah.

I'm using the Z830 in office, older version of the Z930 (but it's actually an internal upgrade). And I can tell you it's extremely portable and fast. For that price you're getting it in school is it? It's like selling 1.6k outside now, super worth it can for 1.4!

I'm also using it for my night classes, travelling with it up and down you won't even feel a thing la. best of all it's full ports, from VGA to HDMI, it's all covered. downside is there's no cd drive because of its slim design.. but nowadays who uses CD lol!

not sure about the after sales service.... i heard very slow? mine haven't broke down yet touch wood.
