Mobo: B85-G41 PC Mate (357 with i5 4460)
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GB Armour (499) (Another possible choice)
RAM: G.Skill/Kingston DDR3-1600 ValueRAM (8GB) (100)
SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB (160)
Monitor: AOC i2757fh (357)/Dell S2715H (399) (27'' 1080p monitor, can play Battlefield 4 smoothly at max settings with GTX 970.)
Networking: Asus PCE-N15 (59)/TP-Link WN781ND (35) (All PCI-E X1 wireless adapters, Asus one can support 300Mbps, TP-Link one up to 150 Mbps, all no dual band.)

You sure about Windows 8 or not? Windows 8 has a rather different GUI from older Windows OSes and you may not be able to get used to it.

Think i will get windows 7 instead
What brand of fan do you reccomend and how many should i install?
Can the mobo fit into other mid/ full tower casings?
Why is the armor preferred over 970 gaming?
I can save on mouse because of the msi xmas promo! ;)

Thanks Alternative X

1) Stock case fans should be good enough for most users. Can always do your own research on case fans and add case fans by yourself in the future if you want to.

2) As long as the casing is ATX sized and larger, the mobo will fit.

3) The Armour variant is cheaper than the Gaming variant and works just as well.

What's wrong with going windows 8? It's better internally than windows 7, though as with all new interfaces, it'll take a while to get use to. Unless its due to program compatibility, I'd suggest using windows 8.1, then later on upgrade to Windows 10 at a much lower price.

For fans, get corsair SP series to heat dissipate from heatsinks and radiators and corsair AF series for casing fan.

get win8 instead of windows 7 cos win7 64bits got alot of problem when install third party drivers as it require all drivers and system files to be signed digitally with a valid certificate or they cannot run

Hi meiyee,
should i get the SP quiet or high performance?
How many of the AF should i install? 120 or 140 size?
Dilemma between win 7 / 8 / 8.1 :s11:

Not that Windows 8 is unusable, but the GUI in Windows 8 is just too different and touchscreen biased when compared to older OSes and it would be bad if the user simply could not get used to the GUI and end up spending extra $$$ to get Windows 7 instead.

Have you used it before? I think the move from windows to mac is more dramatic than win7/xp to win 8.1 and yet we see many people taking that route. I think it is ill advised to recommend a step back for now.

As mentioned, if it is due to software compatibility then use windows 7. If not, win8.1. And looking at TS description, this is a gaming PC so I think he'll benefit more from win 8.1 than 7.

Briefly tried Windows 8 with one of the laptops/desktops on display at various electronic superstores. Didn't like it. Took me a very long time to figure out how to reach the desktop from the Start screen and some reading up on the internet to understand how to even shut down Windows 8 properly. Feels more like using a Windows tablet/phone with the Start screen format rather than a proper desktop/laptop. (Not too fond of the Windows Phone either.)

Besides, for a gaming rig, the OS is not very significant unless the games are going to use either more than 16GB of RAM or uses DirectX 12, neither of which is supported by Windows 7 Home Premium nor is currently needed by current AAA games either.

Thus, I do not see why is there a need to bend over backwards and adapt to a vastly different GUI for the sake of using a new and 'better' OS when the improved features of Windows 8 (192 GB RAM support, DirectX 12) are still not relavant to current gaming and thus is not necessary for a 'superior' gaming experience.

Hi kuroro2, whats the ideal size monitor to fix 1080p perfectly?
Normally, 23'' or 24'' monitors are recommended for an ideal 1080p monitor.

Can also go for a 27'' 1440p monitor, your GTX 970 can also run Battlefield 4 smoothly at max settings in 1440p, but 1440p monitors are rather expensive at $700+ per monitor unless you do not mind shipping your monitor to Korea for RMA, then can also get a Qnix 27'' 1440p monitor for $300+ at Qoo10.

Then advice for you is to try more. I'm using both windows and it takes very little effort to adapt from one to another. Just because its hard to revert back to something more familiar on the 1st try and then condemning it for that is just plain stereotypical or lazy.

He won't benefit it from gaming at all. He'll benefit on the new task managers, faster start up, etc.

This is almost as saying I've got a version X software, but I'm used to it so I won't upgrade to the new version if I wanna have a new setup. Even when that new version costs the same as the older version, more optimized and have more features.

But then again, in the end TS you decide. Both are of roughly the same price.
