Was excited about the phone but disappointed with the price point

Seems like the upcoming OP6T is a better deal overall other than the -2gb and camera

The flagship price tag for a mid range phone is a tough sell among the current market offerings

The R series are sold as camera phone with nice looking design...its like the "A" series of Sammy...perhaps a Huawei Nova series.

Oneplus are a flagship alternate...but often camera not the best...and oneplus (due to mktg), it is unknown to the non tech which form majority thus not selling

realize r17 doesn't have in-display fp setting.

Due to your statment, went to oppo storeand chk...and true enough, not in-display FP.
Just passcode and face.

Also came across a local seller selling 8g/128 R17...(????)

testing the phone now too, and this is definitely not worth the price tag at all. Camera is good, screen looks really nice, but that's about it. For 699, so many other better options. OP6 price now is a bit more only.

Means OPPO intentionally disable the in-display fingerprint for the local R17?

No idea. Even so, what makes them think it's an appropriate version of our market. Lol

Finished my quick review for the R17. In short, for the love of God, DON'T BUY THIS, especially for those of us in Singapore.

As Gary has mentioned, no fingerprint sensor on this phone at all. Which leaves you with the traditional methods which are more troublesome, or the other option is face unlock which is less secure. For a phone with RRP of S$699? This alone should be reason enough not to buy this phone. Especially when the R17 in some other countries has the hidden fingerprint sensor.

The software, ColorOS is still intrusive and just not a great experience. Why does the Music app need phone info like IMEI number? Or when you want to dismiss notifications you can't just swipe it away like every other phone in the market?

Something i didn't add in the review, was that when i "moved" all the sample photos I took with the phone to my USB-C drive half of the photos got corrupted. So i had to retake the night shots, and that's why when you see the camera samples I've uploaded to google photos, there aren't as much photos. I didn't include this in the review because I'm not sure if it was a one-off event or not. But I want to mention it here still because i've not had this issue before with any other phone i've reviewed so far.

It's not a completely bad phone hardware wise. The chipset seems capable, the cameras are decent, and the screen (and the new notch) looks really REALLY nice. Full screen content, games, all looks really nice. It's also nice that they finally switch to using USB-C port.

BUT, at S$699 it's just not worth it. You can probably get it a bit cheaper outside or with qoo10 coupon, but still, it's not going to be worth it man. So many other better options out there. Even if you love the screen design so much, can always wait for the OP6T, which is going to be a better experience for sure. So yeah.... for anyone considering the R17... please... don't.

OPPO R series phones have always been a bit over priced but the build quality and screen is very good just that without in display fingerprint reader for me the product is DOA. Looking forward to the R17 Pro.

R17 Pro $999. Might as well get a proper flagship. :s22:

And so, if I recontract with starhub on the S plan... Im paying basically $0 for this phone, so the cost if $699 is no longer the issue. Im thinking of the R17.

Priority is photo quality at 2MP(yes. I only take photos at 2MP to save space) and snappiness of phone, upgrading from SONY XZ.

Important question is whether the R17 Singapore version is still using UFS 2.1 storage. That SUPER IMPORTANT for snappiness.

Is the R17 pro on screen fingerprint sensor compatible with mobile banking app log in?
