TD Ameritrade is good; OptionsXpress is good; I personally use and love Interactive Brokers (which is also the cheapest), but their software has a bit of a learning curve.

I personally favour thinkorswim (IB is still the cheapest btw) as it's the only platform tt i've used so far. The interface could be quite overwhelming from the onstart but nothing u can't overcome with a few youtube videos.

What really reins me in is that TOS conducts demos like 2~3 times per month at SMU to teach people how to use their trading platform which are categorized into basic, intermediate & advanced.

The basic demo teaches people how to use navigate within the trading platform, intermediate demo teaches people how to do spread trading like vertical spreads etc and finally advanced demo teaches people how to use the 'Analyze', 'Risk Profile' features to do advanced spread treading.

Dun be misled by the word 'demo', it's actually more like a lesson teaching people how to trade under different market conditions & do high probability, defined risk trades using different strategies & the reasons behind them.

I find it hugely beneficial.

In terms of costing, i still use back OX. At first I thought IB would be great (in cost) and other info but im back with OX

Reason being of the interface, ease of use and cost, over IB.

IB's options (for me) is
-15 mins delayed data
- whenever i cancel n place orders kana extra charges
- ease of use abit slow. By the time i finish clicking my options parameters already 1 min gone.

OX would be great if u trade 5 pairs 1 shot (eg. 5 contracts spread), which works out to be $10 for 10 contract trade, abt $1 contract per , but u trade only 1x contract pair contract would be $10 / 2 = $5 contract.

Its interface with the trade calc, graphical calc of std dev and lots of easy to input parameters, ez to use + real time data...

So u can play cheat using OX options data and entering trade eg. 2 contracts in IB :)

No charges for cancellation of orders for TOS.

Hi guys,

i have been reading a few books from the library, on Option Tradings.
Options like calls and puts, seems to be a worth trading tools to hedge and of course, for speculative on stocks and indexes.

Are there any options traders here?
Care to share your experience?

Thanks!

If you are a real trader, you don't play option.

oooo whys that? i heard that it can be used as a hedge.

and selling option is a good income if you can manage the risk-reward.

You have to know that as a trader, I want to minimize my losses and maximize my profits.

Option, although minimize my losses, but it also limit my profits, which make no sense to me.

You can argue that option helps me to manage my risk, but I can do this myself, I don't need option to do this for me.

Option limits my profit is a big turn off to me. If I know a stock has the possibility of reaching 100% profit, why do I want to play option and make only 10% profit? This really don't make sense to any trader.

Did it for nearly a decade professionally, and I still trade bits here and there in my PA. What do you want to know?

Also, what:

Option, although minimize my losses, but it also limit my profits, which make no sense to me.

What? The entire point of long options is that your losses are capped but your profits are unlimited.

i got captivated by Daniel Loh ( abt option tradings... but not sure if it is a scam or not (as we know, singapore has tons of scams going on at any point in time...) so i went to borrow a few books from the library to read...
puts, calls, learn that it is possible to sell options
credit spread, limiting losses.... etc etc

apparently it seems like a very good way to trade compared to just buying stocks, or longing/shorting commodities...

beside going for his course, how else can i learn options trading?
(i just opened an Interactive Broker account, from the other thread abt IB, and im pleased that option trading is available there!)

happy if other seniors and you can share. :D

read books enough, no need to go to all these bullsh!t seminars/courses that waste your money. the best "course" is to experience it yourself with real money. if you lose just take it as course fee. but of coz don't take too much risks first when you're still new.
