Live english stream if anyone's interested.

Japan's meteorology agency is saying there's a 10-20% chance that a similar sized earthquake will hit the same area within the next week. (According to the live news stream)

If the flight isn't cancelled / no travel warnings issued, why would they allow refund? The best you can hope for is to try and claim from travel insurance if you wish to cancel the trip due to natural disasters. Even so, I think it's case by case basis whether can claim from travel insurance or not... you'll need to read the fine prints in the policy.

They are talking about this being the foreshock and a bigger one will happen within the next 2-3 days aka the Kumamoto earthquake last year. The Kumamoto earthquake and this earthquake lies on the same fault line.

Ok, guess will wait and see.

November is still so far away please.

If travelling alone, I'll go anyway but with family need to think and rethink.

You're in Kyoto still? How's the impact there?

Nov is still far. Aftershocks maybe only for next few days.

No one know what will happen in November. Japan itself is always a dangerous country for earthquakes. Anything can happen, maybe M9.0 like Tohoku. no one knows

Nothing much this time except for train disruption for the whole morning so many people were trapped for hours. Some stuff fell off my shelves at home but no big damage. In north Osaka, more people were hurt and some fires broke out.

This quake won't affect your Nov trip for sure. Aftershocks usually don't last for months.

Can't say if there'll be another quake nearer to your trip though. Just keep your eyes peeled on the news when it's nearer to your trip, or monitor JMA website for advisories.

The fault line seems to be pretty active these few days though. A few days ago it was just Gunma (north of Tokyo) which experienced a quake (less than M5.0 though I think?). And today it's near Osaka city...

Am in Osaka/Kyoto now. Anyone able to advise if it is safe to stay?

if you were in Kyoto/Osaka since last night, you would probably have felt a number of aftershocks by now. I would leave if I were you.

Travel insurance already bought 6 mths in advance.

No point making decision now to skip here or there when your trip is in Dec, because earthquakes are not predictable. You can go google and see Japan's fault line. Are you going to skip the entire length of it? Then may as well don't go Japan...

Hi all. My trip to the Osaka/kyoto region is coming this weekend. I'm not sure if I should postpone the trip to 1-2 weeks later or just continue as planned as the Japanese govt seems to be worried that the 5.9 earthquake would only be a foreshock.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

If the area that he is going is damaged by earthquake but have not recovered yet, is it a clause claimable by insurance? If not, like no point going to a place where everything is damaged or closed.
