First time traveller to Japan in October to Osaka/Kyoto region and was wondering will staying in toyoko inn Osaka for all 8nights be better or splitting between Osaka and Kyoto be better?
And on that subject I can't seem to find any better deal than toyoko inn so was wondering if anyone had other hotels to suggest?

If you plan to shuttle everyday between Osaka and Kyoto, stay in the Umeda region, or at least near it. If you're planning to stay at two different places then region of stay isn't a biggie. Personally I think shuttling is ok if you don't like the idea of lugging your luggage and walking about, but again it's up to your choice.

You can have a look at Consort for Osaka, I remember the rates to be pretty good, and to be in good proximity to Shin-Osaka station. For Kyoto well, you'll have to reserve well in advance so I can't really tell you which is good,ms once it's up to availability.

Yup was intending to stay at the umeda branch of toyoko inn if only in Osaka. Consort appears to be fully booked for my dates unfortunately. Or do they open for booking only certain number of months in advance?

how about hotel Kinki in Umeda? cheap and location is very good.

staying in Osaka all the way is ok since it is only 30min by train from Osaka to Kyoto.
save the hassle of changing hotel and give u the flexibility to change ur itinerary if necessary. e.g. if it rains on a day u are going Kyoto, u can always stay in Osaka and visit shopping malls or go aquarium and go Kyoto another day

Consort Hotel for me when I was there 3x.
A capsule hotel at Osaka a night once for experience .

Now that I am Toyoko Inn member , I will use Toyoko if I can.

will definitely try to get a room at consort for my next trip as it seems to be a popular choice.

all said and done for some reason toyoko inn doesnt allow me to book for 8nights. in the end settled for airbnb 660 nett for 8nights w free portable wifi and 10mins walk to osakashin station. hope it will turn out to be a good choice :) thanks for all the help everyone has given me! next up is to plan itinerary...

u booking directly thru Toyoko inn website? Toyoko inn only allow bookings up to 3mth in advance. unless ur are member, then it is 6mths
in fact, most hotels in japan only allow 3mths in advance booking.

did a quick search on toyoko-inn umeda nakatsu no1. Oct seems quite ok except for twin rooms. twin rooms are very limited in for most toyoko-inn

For Kyoto, I recommend Hotel Anteroom Kyoto, located in a residential area(heard it used to be a student dorm).
Nearest station is Kujo station(5~10 mins walk), 1 stop away from Kyoto Station. (might be tough if you have lots of luggage)
However, it's also walkable from Kyoto Station(~20mins).
It's a unique hotel and not too expensive, with artworks displayed in the lobby and in rooms. Friendly staff, clean rooms and modernistic layout.

For me, I will split between Osaka/Kyoto. In fact, I prefer Kyoto so much more than Osaka. Kyoto really a very compact place and got bamboo forest and lots of shrine....

Yup I tried booking direct. The problem is that they only have the option of check in date followed by no. of nights which the maximum is 7. Don't exactly like the idea that I may have to be at the hotel to check in and check out on the same day into a diff room if I were to do booking twice.
And yeah twin is the preferred choice (which is what I got on airbnb haha). Didn't know about the 3months issue... My dates are 15oct-23oct. Is it 3 months exact or for the whole of next 3 months? 😳

can book twice then email them to tell them urs is continuous stay. they will try to arrange for the same room so u dun need to check-in and out.

23oct is just after the 3mth. so maybe they will show as not avail or avail only for members

I am having difficulties to find hotels with availability (and within budget) for Osaka in November period. Looking at the Namba area.

it seems that alot of the good hotels are booked out way in advance :(

if u are booking directly from the hotel website, it is possible that some of the hotels have not opened for bookings coz some only accept bookings 3mths in advance. and if u search for availability, it will just say not available on ur dates.

Booked my Dec Toyoko Inn once they are released to members for my Tokyo / Sapporo trip.
It allows me to cancel / change without penalty or currency loss , unlike Agoda etc.

is it worthwhile to get the membership? this trip i won't be staying there i think. and still have to go there physically to make the card, so not sure if it's worthwhile to get the membership for future use.

so far did you use many times?
