Hi! A group of us would be traveling to japan on end June/July

Landing in Kansai airport around 4pm
30june: Osaka
1july: Osaka
2nd July: Osaka -> hiroshima
3rd July: miyajima
4th: hiroshima -> kyoto
5th: kyoto
6th: kyoto -> Osaka airport?

What pass would we need to get? Is it the Kansai hiroshima area pass or just getting single tickets are better?

Yes, kansai hiroshima pass definitely worth it coz single trip ticket for shinkansen between Hiroshima and osaka is already ard 10k yen one way. The pass also covers the ferry to miyajima

Wah, u just went NZ, so fast going Japan!

Since u only have 7 days, I suggest cutting down on changing accommodations.
Maybe head straight to Hiroshima on the first day and stay for 2-3 nights, then after that travel to osaka and base there for the rest of the trip. Osaka to Kyoto is only 30min by train, so can just do day trips from osaka

Thanks evilerniex.
I was thinking of heading there on first day but my friends say it’s tiring.
He say even when he travel just to Kyoto was tired cause is a 7hrs flight

So probably we will stay in Osaka for first 2 nights. Then hiroshima for next 2nights then Kyoto.

Haha I’m still in New Zealand for 3 more weeks. Then back to sg 3 weeks and japan for 1 week. So quite difficult to plan japan when my friends are in Sg.

It is an additional 80+ min via shinkansen from osaka to Hiroshima.
I tot since already tired, might as well get all the traveling done with and rest well for that night.

Ur flight lands 4pm, after clearing immigration and reaching osaka, probably ard 6-7pm. A bit not here not there also, especially since u all going to be tired after flight.

If it’s just me and my Husband probably we will do that.
But going with friends so have to consider their thoughts haha.
It make sense to go straight there cause save time as well

Yah, traveling with a group is tricky. Have to balance everyone's preferences and constraints. The larger the group, the more conflict.
If u are the easy going kind, just let ur frens plan everything, and go with the flow

Hi

Pls advise whether my itinerary is workable :

Day 1 to 2 : Osaka
Day 3 : Day trip to Kobe
Day 4 : Day trip to Kyoto
Day 5 : Day trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima
Day 6 : Osaka

I prefer to be based in 1 place as packing and unpacking with kids is a hassle.

If I were there for 10 days, any additional places that I can slot in for Day 7 to 10? Or should I just take a train up to Tokyo for the balance 3 days?

Based on my itinerary, will it be worthwhile to buy a JR Pass?

Thanks

U only need Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass, but day 5 for daytrip, to and back already 6,7 hrs, dont think is worth, at least spend a night in Hiroshima.

Can consider a day trip to Nara, another for Amanohashidate, nice view with a small theme park for kids so they wont get bored. I think 1 day for Kyoto also not enough, at least 1 more day. Tokyo keep for future trip.

For Day 5, you have to start very very early. I did that before but didn't really visit Hiroshima (didn't plan to anyway). Miyajima, depending on how you want to do it, can take around 4 to 5 hours walking around.

So if you take travelling from Osaka to Miyajima (about 2 hours), and back to Hiroshima, it's already around 2.5 hours in total. Miyajinma take boat over, walk around... say 4 hours. You probably only have 2 to 3 hours in Hiroshima before you head back (depending on when you start)

I made the following changes :

Day 1 to 2 : Osaka
Day 3 : Day trip to Kobe
Day 4 : Day trip to Kyoto
Day 5 : To Hiroshima and Miyajima
Day 6 : Back to Osaka
Day 7 : Nara
Day 8 : Amanohashidate
Day 9 : Osaka

I see from google map that Osaka to Amanohashidate by train is 3.5 hrs (1 way). Would there be enough time to see much stuff?

If I were to buy the "5 Day JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass" would I be able to use the pass for my trips in Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe etc?

Many thanks for your help

Check the below link for more details on the pass. The subway in Osaka ain't cover though.

https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/pass/kansai_hiroshima/

Best is to take the 9.10am train leaving Osaka Station bound for Fukuchiyama Station, u got 4 mins to transfer to the other line to Amanohashidate station, u will reach at 11.30, this should be the fastest route, 2 hr 20 mins.

For returning i suggest taking the 4.58pm or 6.05pm train, the later 1 direct goes to Kyoto Station, try to get back to the station 30 mins earlier for going back if you are taking the 4.58 1, the tango train seats very little so the queue forms quite early. Keep a close watch on your kids during the transfer of trains, the time very short, alot of Tiongs will rush out once the door opens.

I would suggest u stay at least a night in Hiroshima, and visit himeji on the way back from Hiroshima.
Kyoto would need more than a day. 2-3 days will be good. U still can stay at osaka and make multiple trips.

The places u listed are all covered by the pass.

So based on my itinerary, I should buy a JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass (for Hiroshima, Kyoto, Kobe etc) and a Osaka Amazing Pass (Osaka subway)?

Day 1 to 2 : Osaka
Day 3 : Day trip to Kobe
Day 4 : Day trip to Kyoto
Day 5 : To Hiroshima and Miyajima
Day 6 : Back to Osaka
Day 7 : Nara
Day 8 : Amanohashidate
Day 9 : Osaka

osaka amazing pass depends on where u are going. most of the time i just use ICOCA/SUICA (their equivalent of our ezlink) to get ard within the cities, without any passes. more flexibility coz dun have to stick to JR or to subway/metro.

osaka amazing pass have discounts for certain attractions, so if u are planning to visit those attractions, and taking multiple rides on subways/metro, the pass may be worth it

i just did a trip to Osaka > Kyoto > Osaka > Hiroshima/Miyajima > Osaka > Singapore. I treat Osaka as my transition stop. When i was in the Kansai region only, aka Osaka and Kyoto, i only get icoca card for the public transport. However, for the day trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima, i bought JR Shinkenshen thru and fro ticket which cost about 250-260SGD for full trip.
