I do recommend Sheraton Miyako Osaka as it's right on top of the subway line and another private rail line (Kintetsu).

Good rates will be around JPY10-12K/night

I have not book the tickets yet so I can still play around with the starting and ending city.

8 days is too short to cover tokyo, osaka and kyoto. suggest u stick to osaka and kyoto, plus day trips to nara, kobe and himeji is got time. it is quite expensive and time consuming to travel from kyoto/osaka to tokyo coz they are very far apart

ic, it's doable. But doable doesn't mean enjoyable. If you just want to touch and go and "I was there" kind then no problem. And also depends on if you are solo or travelling with others.

Too rushed. It is not really that long a trip, only about 1 week. Plus if you want to add Kyushu, you are going to have to spend much more on your transportation to get there from kansai region (and then back to Kansai region again).

If you intend to explore further out of Kansai region, here are 2 railpasses for your consideration (other than the expensive 7 days JR Pass)
JR West Rail Pass - Kansai Hokuriku Area Pass
JR West Rail Pass - Kansai Wide Area Pass

If you want to stay overnight at a hotspring town, my recommendation is Kinosaki onsen (about 3hrs Ltd Exp train ride away from Osaka).

Try to schedule your overnight stay at Kinosaki onsen for the last few days of your trip for a slightly higher chance of seeing snowfall.

There are so many places within Kansai region that you can explore during your trip, like Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Himeji, maybe Wakayama...and if you want to explore slightly further out of Kansai, there's Kanazawa, Kinosaki onsen, Okayama, Kurashiki...
