i travel frequently due to work and whenever i want to make online purchases, i must always encounter the "OTP Problem". Problem is, my number does not have auto roaming and hence i can't key in the code.

is there anyway to deactivate OTP from credit cards? I called ANZ and Citibank and they told me both mastercard & visa made it mandatory to go thru this.

or is there any debit/credit card that don't require me to key in OTP?

Pls advice, TIA!

The OTP authentication is a security feature for the website, not a feature because of the card you use. Some websites don't need OTP. Previously, other then SMS OTP, you can set the hardware security token as the means to generate the OTP. Not sure any bank still allowing this, as I know SCB and Maybank no longer allow security token to generate the OTP for 3-D Secure merchant websites, for security reasons

Same here for Citibank. OTP only thru SMS and not hardware token.

For OP, does your carrier have Pay-as-you-roam? You can turn it on to roam, and incoming SMS is still free. You can still refrain from using any roaming services for calls and data, and there shouldn't be any charges.

Just buy a dual SIM phone.

Lol, that's what I thought. So I bought an S7. Turns out 1 SIM is at 4G, while the other is only at 2G. Which means this phone essentially a single SIM phone in sg come Apr 2017. Only note 7 comes with 4G + 3G currently. I did went to Samsung shop to ask, some of them says Samsung will release firmware to enable 4G + 3G, others say not going to release that. I'm more skeptical as this is usually more hardware issue (ie 2x 2G antennae, 1x 3G, 1x 4G antenna) than software issue. Though I do hope that the update to 3G + 4G is true though.

Japan also has no 2G and some developed countries are going to shut down 2G services too, at least the ones I probably frequent for work.

AT&T / T-mobile 2G shutdown

Australia 2G shutdown

TS,

As far as I know, all the 3 telcos provide Pay-As-U-Roam for free. Just ask them to activate it, if you do not have it currently. You can receive incoming SMS when you have Pay-As-U-Roam service. There is no charge unless you make/take a call or send out SMS or use data plan overseas. If you do use, the fee/charge will be slightly more than Auto-roaming charges.
