But i way prefer you are the apple of my eye (YATAOME) more than our times. I rate it 9.25/10.

YATAOME: boy's perspectives... i believe all of us guys have a shen jiayi in our heart during schooling. Gideon is very fortunate to have her nu shen appearing in his youth, taught him to mend his ways, taught him to study and work hard for his dreams. He not only love her, but i believe he is also thankful to her and occupies a very special [place in his heart for the rest of his life.

The final 15 minutes with the flashbacks are extremely hard for me to watch. So near yet so far. So close. What if ...?

A very important scene in YATAOME is the look of shen jiayi's gaze at Gideon when she was walking down the aisle during the wedding. She was hesitant and somewhat apprehensive when looking at Gideon but when she saw Gideon smiling and clapping and giving her his blessings, she broke into an even more beautiful smile. This kind of small details is very important in depicting how both felt at that time without using any words.

This movie is far etched into my heart. Only after i watch the movie did i realize it is actually the director's real life story. No wonder it is so authentic and realistic.

Our times: girl's perspectives. I think gals will prefer this because lets admit it... not many gals are shen jiayi (the nu shen in YATAOME, not the backstabber) during their schooling. They are most likely shen jiayi's plain jane female friends at most and wouldn't have so much attention from male classmates.

But several scenes are very heartbreaking too. The scene where truly dragged taiyu to the rooftop only for that min min to hijack that precious moment, and truly had to leave and put on a brave front while fighting back tears. When she ran and fell down and acted nonchalantly but cried her heart out when she was alone, that was extremely sad.

The flashbacks during taiyu's recorded audio is also very memorable. The bad ah beng will actually do anything and everything just to fulfill his promises to her behind her back despite knowing she won't even know. If the movie ended there, i will still rate it very high (likely 8.5).

What I cannot accept this movie are two major flaws. The change of actors in adulthood. The chemistry and admiration is gone. The eyes and expression of the adult actors are nowhere comparable to the young actors because of that lack of chemistry. In fact, that scene was terribly awkward and completely taking away that screen chemistry.

And more importantly, that incredulous fairy-tale ending. Come on la. Makes gals feel good. When i watch that ending, i was like wtf. Makes the movie feels fake and cheap, and destroys the good acting of truly and taiyu. Because of these two fatal flaws, i will only rate it 7.25 at most.
