We are graduate student devising new features to improve the overbooking management system of the airlines and would like to seek for travelers feedback and information.

The survey will take approximately 2 minutes. We would appreciate your time and consideration.

don't understand how your survey questions will help in managing overbooking. there is such a thing as standby tickets which are priced lower. these people go only when there are seats and they usually know when they are at the airport.

actually overbooked issues, we as passengers wouldn't have much choices

for example, if the flight is overbooked, normally they would put us in another flight ... or give us free accommodations ...

Overbook flight is airline strategy to make money because they have the stats of those who usually missed flight or change last minute.

The airline didnt lose any money as they just fill up seats by compensating the guy to the next flight plus a bit of compensation.

So let say flight 100 is overbooked by 2 person. These two persons already paid $100 each. Now the airline going to move them to next flight plus compensate $80.

All in all they still earn $20 from the passenger as flight capacity cant exceed the maximum allowed passenger. Unless the compensation is higher, then they will have to start tweaking their strategy and compensation.

Overbooked economy usually bumped up to business class too. Win win for everyone

the flight was overbooked, the staff told us luckily you all arrived earlier ...
we were 1 hour before departure timing already ...
our flight suqenence number is already 170+

asked what will happened if the other people came ?
she said would have to allocate them to next flight or give free accomodations ...

Overbooking is something... Afaik... Done on purpose and to ensure MAXIMUM profit for every single flight possible.

If my plane has 50 economy seats, I would prefer oversell 52 seats. The 2 extra tickets is my insurance in case 2 of the 52 ticket holders last min cancel or change flight or simply never turn up...
I will still take off with...

50 passengers....

But what if all 52 turn up? That's when code share, upgrades and air alliance comes into play... I can ALWAYS recommend a slightly earlier flight or later flight as first option... As pointed out by the others here...

If passengers don't accept, then I will suggest an internal system upgrade to next available higher class either premium economy or biz class, whichever is available first.

Will the aviation industry want this to be regulated or removed?

From a business pov... NO
