No, higher wattage PSU does not translate into high consumption. If your rig use 400w, it will remains the same even a 1200w PSU is used.

No. Power draw is based on system not power supply.
Doesn't mean u use 850w psu = draw 850w

Anyway it's a good thing since u alrdy bought it. More efficiency on mid usage and run silently due to low fan rpm or even fanless mode. Can be use to Sli/xfire in the future also

More headroom means ur psu is fining to last for a long long time. Rule of the thumb is always 10 to 15% headroom on top off highest wattage .

Agreed...when comes to psu more headroom is definetly better n its future proof to a certain extent. ..its overkill when u buy a 1600 when u need only 500 max...

I went to best bargain. They only had 850W. When I asked about 650W and 750W, said stock coming on Friday. Can check later I guess.

Leadex gold full modular has 650w, 750w in addition to their bigger PSU's now.

You will waste more money by buying a voltmeter. Don't bother really, your bills will not shoot up because you are using a 850W PSU. Larger headroom means your PSU / Capacitor will be running at less than 50% capacity most of the time, which ensures your hardware longevity to an extend. Buy liao just enjoy, you are pretty much future proofed to an extend in terms of upgrade next time.

It is good to know the power consumption of your rig, so as to buy the PSU you need instead of an overkill PSU. After all, PSU is most efficient at 50% load.

Was at PC Themes this afternoon, see only 1000w Super flower PSU. No stock of lower wattage.

if you get a large capacity PSU, the efficiency at low load can be very bad, about 60%-70%.

The general rule of thumb is total wattage of the system should be about 80% of the power rating of the PSU, when the PSU operating at the highest of the efficiency curve. So if your system total power is 400W, 400/0.8 =500-550W PSU will be more than sufficient. Even you decide to SLi or crossfire, it will be able to power under full load.
