hi. standard chartered currently allows users to overpay and we are allowed to use credit card refund function in the app to pull out the excess funds into our scb savings account.

is there any other banks that allow that?

Overpaying is good if, for example, you have a big ticket purchase above your credit limit and you want to "increase" your credit limit by prepaying so your card won't get declined.

Huh? Usually if you have clean credit record credit limit is very easy to get High limit.

I understand that part. I don’t understand the refund part. The reason you’d be overpaying is to spend more right away, right? Overpaying expressly for the purpose of getting a refund seems suspicious, the sort of thing someone engaged in money laundering might do. Or when someone tries to get a loan (or credit line increase) in excess of MAS regulatory limits, so they manipulate Card #1 to make it have an artificial/contrived surplus that allegedly offsets outstanding debts.

You will be surprise the extent people who intends to wash money will do to wash it.

Anyway if you use GIRO payment, the issue of forgetting to pay will not be an issue?

You have to be careful. If it's unused there's no history of on time payment (because your end of month balance is zero or positive) and so your credit score won't improve (it won't get worse either).

Why not use GIRO?

I overpay because I like to pay off my credit card at the end of the month despite having GIRO arrangements. If I pay too close to the GIRO deduction date the bank does not have enough time to update their deduction run and I pay double.

When I ask DBS for a refund they will always deduct the unbilled item and refund the balance. Meaning if I have overpaid 500 and there is still unbilled item worth $100, I only get back $400.
