P20 Pro or Mate 20 (non-pro)

I was also considering between P20 Pro second hand or brand new Mate 20 which is quite similar in price, even used vs second hand.

End up going for P20 Pro as I think the camera "should" be better on P20 Pro, and the easy to use form factor.

But Mate 20 advantage is the Kirin 980, but for me it is only going to be my work and camera phone so I thought P20 Pro will do, and I prefer the design of the P20 series triple cam over the Mate 20 triple cam set up.

But I think both are equally good, as Mate 20 non pro gives you the wide angle capability.

Thanks Charlie for the review. I think the rear camera is better for P20 Pro. I love the mate 20 screen size, but not sure how well is the display is. Lcd vs amoled. Can tell the differences?

Personally cant really tell differences in terms of sharpness, other than black being better on OLED.

But I think the display bigger concern is hand feel, cause the p20 pro is handy whereas M20 is kinda wide so it's harder to 1 hand compared to P20 P.

Also no more monochrome on M20 but not sure if you will use it. But there are some reviews that say the monochrome actually helps to bring in more details than wide angle does.

Hmm.. I see. I am holding a iPhone 7 256, still pretty snappy. M1 contract ending, so intend to get a shot at android, with the Uno plan I got. Two SIM cards on one phone, hopefully it works out well. Do you think Mate 20 camera will lost out to iphone 7 which is a two year old camera technology?

Recently I sold my P20 Pro within 1 week of buying it. I just felt that the phone is not fluid enough (even after tweaking animation settings). Then I traded it in and got the Mate20P. The Kirin 980 is smooth and very responsive.

Camera wise P20 Pro was very good. But as I plan to use the phone for 1.5 - 2 years, taking a Kirin 980 based phone made more sense to me.

I use Android phone as my reserve phone.

I think it pretty much depends on what you use your phone for. For taking photos, I believe P20 Pro is the superior choice. Its got a nice OLED screen and waterproof.

If you are into gaming, then the Mate 20 may be a better choice due to the faster SOC.

For me, the key advantage of the Mate 20 vs the P20 Pro is purely the faster SOC. Screen size is not my consideration.
