Paging file size allocated not recommended size...

hey guys...

Recently I upgraded my RAMs to 16GB of DDR3-1866...

I initially allowed my paging settings to be system managed. But then I realized that the allocated file size is 16GB and the recommended is around only 2GB+. Why is this so? :s22::eek::s11:

As I don't really like to allocated that much of usable disk space just for paging file, and especially as I already have 16GB of ram, what is the recommended file size I should manually allocate?

Thanks and cheers! :(

Just leave it to Windows. Your system set the pagefile to 16GB because sometime in the past, you have needed that large a pagefile.

:s11: Which apps will need 16GB of paging file sia? :s22:

In that case I shall just leave it as system managed then.

You won't miss the 16GB on your SSD/HDD used for paging so can just leave it. I would speculate the 16 GB you used earlier could be photoshop images. If you like, you can just change the page file to 2GB and then change again to system managed. It will automatically increase as needed.

I used to have a problem but not sure if it is attributed to page file. My page file was set to 1024mb. When I played evolve and skype at the same time, the game will hang, then the pc will restart. Since I set it to system managed, no more problems already.

Ok I did some research and found out that the reason why my paging file is so huge is because of the automatic memory dump settings.

I figured out that I don't need this memory dump thing. So I disabled it by setting it to none. Leaving the paging file as system managed.

Now the paging file allocated is only 1GB. Which saves up 15GB of my precious HDD space.

Time to move on to SSD for your OS/page file. :) It will make a big difference to your system.

Hahaha... But I still have to monitor my games and apps to see if the 1GB paging file is sufficient to be stable.

Should be la hor. :( 16GB of RAMs should be sufficient for running tonnes of apps in the background plus photoshop:s22:

If it is system managed, the page file will increase in size as needed so there should be no problem with stability.

16GB of RAM is a lot. :)

fyi, there is a great deal now on at Lazada for the 480GB Zotac Premium SSD. Dropped from the usual 199 to 179. Add in a $21 item and you can use Citibank's $25 off code. CITI200KICKOFF (first 200 users only)
