Palit GTX 760 - Powertrip

Hi All,

I have one Palit GTX 760, whenever I switch on the power at the "first time", it will powertrip. However it will not powertrip again after 2nd try or never turn off the power socket. Looks like some issue with GC as when i try with another GC (GTX 650ti), it never powertrip.

I'm using thermaltake toughpower XT 1475W PSU 80+ GOLD, believe this PSU sufficient to power up GTX760.

Is there anything i can fix this gc? haha, just trying fix as the GC still well performing for most of the games. I tried replace the thermal compound MX4 still no luck.

Hope any bros here can give me some advise.

I feel the PSU may also be a likely culprit. The GTX 760 draws significantly more power than a GTX 650Ti, so it may not be a good test. The PSU is certainly more than enough to power even an SLI of GTX 760, but if it is faulty, it may cause a power trip too.

When it trips, which breaker did it trip in your circuit breaker?

Did it trip the whole house? Or only the particular breaker?

I also dont think any of the components inside will cause an ac breaker to trip. If it was a shorted, a good psu would self cut off.

Only that particular breaker, not whole whole house.

Sound like PSU issue? But so far it never power trip for gtx 650ti.

Then it could be that socket you used that is shared within that room or area can be overload. Or could be the psu that can cause a surge when you first turn on. Should not be your components inside.

If you PSU is under warranty, bring it back to the distro to test it. Otherwise you can just get a reasonably powered PSU which will not cost an arm and leg. I don't see why you need 1475W in the first place with a GTX 760.

Serious overkill thats why powertrip... and here thinking I using 1000w Platinum Golden Flower King to run gtx1080ti is an overkill

I tried 3 diff sockets, same powertrip happen for the first switch on for diff particular breaker.

If you have spare PSU, should test it with your 760 to rule out any fault with your PSU. If your spare works with the 760, then likely your thermaltake PSU got problem.

GPU is using DC12v, technically a faulty/failed DC12volts device powered by PSU will not trip an AC circuit breaker.

For the circuit breaker to tripped, the fault mostly likely lies with the AC primary circuit of the PSU or other faults related to AC power source.

I was amused that TS is using 1475w PS to power a gtx760. Power trip means PS wanna uplorry soon. Had this problem before.. LOL

I think it is best to try another PSU to confirm the problem.

The GTX 650Ti probably did not load the PSU enough to cause a problem is what I feel. A higher load/stress on anything tends to expose the issue, which is why people who overclock tend to stress test it.

You are using Superflower golden king 1000w PSU? Mine is only 550w.

do u stay in an old residential unit? it might be ur main circuit breaker is abit old as well?

did u encounter any trips with heavy rain n lightnings?
