Everyone wants them to release a compact m43 with compact m43 lens ( aka modern gm1/gm5 ) and they release this. Panasonic has truly left the m43 platform to rot on it's own

It's quite surprising that they released an L-mount compact body, but the fixed F8 pancake lens seems like an odd choice. The L-mount is designed for full-frame, and with such a compact body, any other quality lens would likely overshadow the body in size and weight. This makes the S9 less appealing when considering the availability of better L-mount bodies that can support higher-quality lenses more effectively.

The cold shoe design on this camera indeed seems geared towards content creators and travelers rather than professional photographers. Pros typically mount a flash or trigger on the hot shoe for more advanced lighting setups. The cold shoe, which lacks electronic connections, limits this functionality but is useful for mounting accessories like microphones or small LED lights, making it more appealing for vloggers and on-the-go content creation.

The lack of EVF could put existing SLR/Mirrorless users off, but it could come off great for existing smartphone users looking to go deeper into the hobby. The lack of a hot shoe for flash seems to me like they are gearing this more for those video content creators ( though not sure why they capped video recording at 15 mins )

Will end up drawing lots of comparisons from a smaller ( but bigger on grip ) A7c series that has a multi interface hot shoe and also an EVF.

Nonetheless would still look forward to handle one

looks like gm5 and gf10 are last of their line.
