Some get the impression that Malays would favour the PAP because of Article 152 which protects the interests of the indigenous people of Singapore. However, when it comes to the vote who knows since voting is secret. This Malay blogger is also unsure of the influence the PAP has over the Malay vote.

"We are just like any other community in Singapore - some will be pro-PAP, some will be anti-PAP, and most would have mixed feelings."

What you saying is kinda like saying that all Chinese <--- PRC support CCP, since they are all "Chinese".

Kinda sweeping statement?

Your number of malay friends don't hold a candle to mine. :s13:

I work in an organisation where the 100 odd people there are almost all malays. I also serve at masjids which are malay enclaves.

Anyhow, we're talking about that article in the OP. It's targeted audience? The malays.

Btw, ORZ? WHat's that?

Come to think of it, what make you think they support PAP, you guys go on a march together, or sit down together to see who to vote?

Actually, it does sound like what something the SDP might come up with to create controversy and therefore attention to whatever it is selling.

Im really not with you on this. I've been following the site for a couple of years now, and though it may be critical sometimes, I've never seen a an article titled as ridiculous as the one on this thread, which just goes beyond critical into the realm of puerility.

Abdul Halim Kader, the chairman of the Inter-Agency Aftercare Group which takes care of ISA detainees, wants more communication with the Mufti, or Islamic religious head.

He said: "More effort can be done, as part of the continuing efforts. For example, you can see the number of Malay-Muslim organisations have come with the new initiatives, mosque leaders have been continuing to lay down the programmes, provide counselling monitor the mosque.

"But perhaps, we could introduce the hotline system between all the mosques in Singapore to the office of the Mufti in Singapore. It will give an opportunity for people or individuals to report such radical issues in Singapore to the Mufti office from time to time.

"By having the hotlines, it will tighten up the issues as well as to monitor whether there are such radical activities in the mosque or around the other parts of Singapore.

Is it saying the Mufti should flag anyone suspected of being a radical?

I am a malay. It is obvious to me.

Thanks for stating the obvious to me.

I read in Straits Times that the support from the Malay community was the deciding factor in winning Aljunied GRC in 2006 general elections.

What do you think is the sentiment of the Malay community on the ground this coming election?

Jul 12, 2010 Watch for telltale signs

By Maria Almenoar
http://www.straitstimes.com/print/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_552393.html

FAMILY members need to watch for telltale signs of self-radicalisation within their own family unit.

They should take these signs seriously and not pass them off as jokes and report them to the relevant authorities such as the police and the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis), said Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng on Sunday.

He was speaking to reporters after the launch of a block of studio flats in Bishan for the elderly which are equipped with elderly-friendly features such as an emergency alarm in the units, ramps and handrails along corridors.

DPM Wong's comments about terrorism and self-radicalisation come about a week after it was reported that full-time national serviceman Muhammad Fadil Abdul Hamid will be detained for two years under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Fadil had surfed the Internet for jihadist propaganda and had made contact with a known radical.

Several other ministers had also spoken about the detention, including the other DPM and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean, as well as Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim.
Read the full report in Monday's edition of The Straits Times.

Jul 12, 2010 Watch for telltale signs

I wonder would this be too much. After all, what are the telltales signs?

surfing the net? complaining about govt policies? complaining about anything?

These seems to be the same as what anyone would say if they are dissatisfied with their lot in life...

Of cos, if anyone stated clearly that they are going to fight a "holy war" via terrorist acts, that would be a clear signal. But I wonder which good for nothing terrorist would come out to state that clearly before the act...

maybe a checklist of telltales signs will be good...

I am thinking more in the lines of

surfing and searching for jihadist material
listening to Imams preaching armed Jihad.
wanting to go to the hot spots where the training camps are.
wanting to meet Osama Bin Ladin or his lieutenants.
starts talking about infidels ruining the place...
speaking of injustice to the muslim brothers.

these will be things that self-radicalised individuals will bring up in conversation with family unless they have isolated themselves even from family.

these things. PAP related issues are PAP related. Anyone can say them. Not just radicalised people.

Could be done by anyone who search for certain key words... for example Israel, unfair and war may land you into a jihad website...

anyway, if I dun go and look, how I know if these website is jihad related? Then if i go search, would someone accuse me of being a self-radicalised singaporean?

wanting to go to the hot spots where the training camps are.

One of these happen to be iraq and a "hot" spot for business...

also, what about holy sites for Islam? Some of these are in countries where terrorist training camps are...

Also, what about Pakistan? It has terror camps, but is a place where some may have (distance) families...

wanting to meet Osama Bin Ladin or his lieutenants.

I would want to knwo where he is... there is a high reward on his head...

starts talking about infidels ruining the place...

Which is what all racist talks about... how people of other religion or race is ruining the place...

People talks about how FT/FW is ruining the place here everyday. Are they terrorist? or only when people of a certain religion talks about such thing are terrorist?

speaking of injustice to the muslim brothers.

many non-terrorist talks about these things too...

these will be things that self-radicalised individuals will bring up in conversation with family unless they have isolated themselves even from family.

These are things normal people may talk about too...

these things. PAP related issues are PAP related. Anyone can say them. Not just radicalised people.

OK... let leave the PAP things out...

Is the below guy a terrorist?

He surf net for materials on the wars involving Muslim (generally about how muslim loses the war unfairly).
He search for website on places where there are people talking about how infidels is killing innocence civilian.
He says infidels must be stopped...
He wants to visit a place where people talks about holy wars and how to implement it...

If you says yes to above, then you will have classified all muslim as terrorist...

Holy way is not all about killing people...
Almost all muslim is unhappy about certain infidel bullying muslim...

So does this make them all terrorist?

Not true. Saudi Arabia is a staunch ally of the United States. 15 of the 19 Sept 11 hijackers were Saudis, yet the US government never lay a finger on the Saud family.

u are the one who is sweepingly classifying here.

most moderate Muslims believe in jihad that is self-struggle and that secularism is the proper way.

not jihad that is strapping bombs on oneself and blowing it up in a shopping centre to prove a point.

I would think that an individuals can sympathise with what is happening in Palestine but to decalre "I want to join Hamas and kill all the jews" is another thing altogether right?

one is radicalised BEFORE learning how to make bombs, undergoing training and becoming a terrorist.

I am talking about radicalised and you want to label them as terrorist. Do we investigate radicalised people to see if they are becoming terrorist or we wait for them to become one??

I think of radicalised individuals as pre-cursors to the JI six who were detained under ISA. I did not see SDP speaking out for the JI six. So why a fuss over this case?
