Hi.My son is presently in BMT in Tekong. And I was recently diagnosed with a heart condition called A-HCM, which is Apical Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. In simple terms, it is the thickening of the heart muscles. This condition is the major cause of cardiac death in the young. It is a genetic disorder and my heart doctor advised me to notify his unit's MO to get him to do an echogram to see whether my son is affected or not.
But the problem is this, my son is not very keen to see the MO as he will have to report sick even to deliver the memo from my doctor to him. So how? Actually I prefer to do it as I will be in a better position to explain anything on the spot. Is there an avenue for me to write to them or call them? Maybe CMPB? Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance.

i understand your worries, i advise you to call up his unit(the coy) and inform his superiors on his condition. from there, they will send him to MO by orders the next day, so it save you the trouble and of cos since he is forced to do so, no choice but LLST.... if asked, u can be frank and tell him that his life is more impt then the nation. seriously i see ppl who is like ur son, keen to chiong but .................. it is not worth it, remember, mai tu liao, thing may just strike anytime....

very simple...

after he book out, just bring him to polyclinic or government hospital and ask them do the echogram. bring your memo and show it to the doctor there to avoid any miscommunication.

most probably you wouldn't have to pay for the echogram as it should be covered under his 11b.

I am confused, you trying to write in a 3rd person's view? Because you always say what "I" and "My son".

Then is you and your son's problem, because is he doesn't want to see, not his commanders don't want let him see what.

Actually I am confused, whey your specialist cannot do the echogram for him must get MO to do it?

Why didn't your son bring up this case to the MO @MCC?

Even if your son did not bring up the issue, his ECG would be abnormal with unusual morphology which warrants further investigation.

Why is your story inconsistent?

Too many doubts, how to help you?

His son is in NS what, so why not utilise the free medical coverage? It's an important issue since it's a potential genetic disorder that is passed down the descendent.

agree, use this method.

when son bookout on friday evening or sat, faster go to visit any A&E government hospital to report sick and do echogram...with 11B, all medical fee is FREE. After the doctor there to write a letter/memo to SAF MO regarding his condition. You son will take the letter/memo and book in, pass the letter to the MO in the camp...and continue from there.

Remember to photocopy the letter/memo as SAF tend to lose these letter "somehow"

Hi,renfred89, I was only diagnosed with this condition just a few days ago, after I suffered breathlessness when doing my morning swim. Usually I could do 20 laps with no problem, but that day I was out of breathe after only 3 laps. To cut a long story short, I was admitted to hospital after my blood test showed a raised level of a chemical called troponin (I think that's the spelling) and ECG reading showed a possible heart attack. Then after an angiogram done to show that there was no blockage of tne main arteries, they sent me to do an cardio echogram, then they realized that I got thickening of the heart muscles. The specialist advise me to get my kids to do the same tests to confirm that they are ok. For my girl who is in sec4, he gave her a memo for the polyclinic so that they can refer her to the SGH Heart Centre. And my boy,a memo to the MO of his camp.
I hope this clears it up. If you are correct about my son's ecg that was taken before his enlistment shows all clear, than I am all for it. But I think my cardiologist still have a point there. I think I will call his camp hotline on Monday morning to see what should be done. Thanks everyone.

He never say whether his "heart doctor" is private or govt, so whats wrong with assuming is gahment hence even if do also free?

I see... u got a point. But I think even NSF can't just visit a specialist without getting referral from polyclinic or the camp MO.

Wah you are making all these very complicated.

ok nvm.

There's nothing we can do if your son doesn't want to cooperate, but if you can't force your son to go see MO, then tell his commanders, then he will be ORDERED to do so

if go see specialist without referral, you will be treated as a private patient so no subsidy at all.

Hmmm I thought first post was very clear?

TS went to see his doctor, found out about this genetic disorder. He wants his son to be diagnosed for this disorder too to play safe. So hard to understand meh?

That's why lor. Knowing whether it's gahmen specialist or private specialist doesn't matter at all, if there's no referral from MO or polyclinic. :o

He also never mention whether is it private or referred ma, so what's wrong with assuming it's referred?

Dunno... maybe not only me.

Also, even if TS's medical appointment with his doctor is subsidised (referred), it doesn't mean his son will be automatically subsidised without referral, since his son will have to go through the same referral process too, that's why I mentioned that there was no point to ask whether TS doctor is private or gahmen.
