The April Singapore Savings Bond, which has closed for applications, yields 1.23% pa if you hold it for 2 years. Have to see what the next issue yields.

For FDs you can use my FD database through chuanz's interface. Currently the best offer for $100k 24 months is HLF, also at 1.23% pa. I only capture offers advertised on the banks' websites so this is just a reference.

You can give a guarantee that ANY unit trust will even give >1% p.a. within 2 years? :s8:

No, almost everything out there is non-guarantee, you don't know? :s13:

But there are stable conservative funds giving better returns than SSB/FD even in short timeframe.

Charges wise just find a good agent to charge minimal upfront fees. Easy.

You sound like you got bad experience before, sounding so skeptical.

2 totally different things - no guarantee does not mean unit trust will take 10 years to breakeven as per alexchia01 statement

It's easy for folks here to jump to conclusion - the general climate of thought is that all unit trust are worse than Ssb or etf

"Stable and conservative" is a description written on the unit trust prospectus. That is not a guarantee of any sort. The prospectus will not contain guarantees on the capital or returns.

Fees don't kill returns in unit trusts (unless they are ILPs). Management fees do.

Come the freak on. The certified trainers from moneysense.gov.sg did not recommend any form of investments for short time frames like 2 years.

We been down this route before.
Many agents and other members have try to say unit trust is profitable blah blah blah but the crux of the matter is, picking the % of unit trust that are good vs picking the etf that is good is immeasurably in the favour of etf. One can easily tell you to dca invest in iwda for a decade, can you recommend any unit trust that you think can beat iwda over a decade?

Anyway, TS wanted a 2 year parking place. Unit trust is one of the worst place unless one already know which to park in.

Well your maxim does not apply if you can time the market successfully which admittedly may not be applicable to everyone

TS Pls ignore us as you are not looking into stocks in the first place

Lol, these agents everytime say can have good returns if invest in the "right" one, but when people ask them what is the "right" one, they keep going around in circles instead and don't answer the main question.
