Part Time computer science degrees

I am comparing the part time degree courses between Kaplan and PSB.

One reason I compare them is because of the duration of the course but nevertheless, which of the two is better? Or are there other facilities that I should consider?

Noob question: Do anyone know what computing languages will be taught in these 2 courses? Tried scanning thru the brochure but found no info

These 2 , no diff pick the one cheapest or closer to work or home. One study min 9 modules another more.

due to some complications in my current industry at sg.. i am still contemplating if i should change industry.. the reason for short term is because i am not that young anymore, late 20s le and dun wanna waste any time if possible..

was thinking of becoming a software or python developer since i have knowledge in the latter

Topic on wasting time.
Spend 1.5 yrs on a crap degree vs 2.5 yrs on a decent degree.
Yes end result is degree crap degree u wasted 1.5 yrs and $ not much gain 10yrs down the road
In the long run 2.5 yrs, u learn the skills u need and be better off 10 yrs later.

Top up degree often view not much diff from a diploma holder.
Is 1 more yr a lot of time when u look you still have a 30 yrs to go.
Buy a paper from save time and $$ and still have effect of the 1.5 yr degree. May have same result too!

Software developer yes u don't need school if u can write code and work on open source and put stuff on App Store. You have those to prove crap degree also ok. If u unable to do that just base you learning on degree? Well you just wasted that 1.5 yr go buy a paper.

With good training, u can switch to finance. Being in a better program u rub shoulders with ppl with diff goals. Your buddy maybe able to help u.

Hi all, I understand that what all of you are talking about. Will consider the program from ngee ann instead of the other two that I have mentioned.

Have been weighing the pros and cons as well as the time needed to complete it.. I keep having such 'insecurities' due to the current restructuting happening in my company and it is making me to think all over again..

At Kaplan they teach Java + MySQL while PSB one teach VB.NET + MS SQL. That's what I heard from my colleagues who studied there few years ago. Both like the same to me. At the end of the day is about your adaptability to new technologies and able to get things done quick and precise.

Sorry to say this but I believe working as a software/web developer in Singapore is going to be a tough journey especially if you're only focusing on 1 language/technology. Once there is a younger or same age FT with degree or even master asking for lower salary than you, there is a high chance of you getting replaced by them.

That's why very common to see many people with IT or related degree try hard to become a project manager. Those who didn't manage to do so or prefer a work-life balance maybe go teach. The others probably jump ship to different area.

So if you intend to stay as developer/specialist/whatever they called for someone in IT doing the practical work, you really need to be flexible with all technologies and always ready for any updates/upgrades in future.

FYI ITE and poly students nowadays are learning Java on NetBeans/Eclipse/Android Studio, C#/C++ on Visual Studio, Objective-C/Swift on Xcode and a lot more stuff...
