Was an ex-student of NYP last year but withdrew to retake my O'level English. I've managed to pass my English this time and apply NYP Business courses through DAE but got rejected even thou I've gotten 13 points for my O'level. I'm thinking if I should take up part time local diploma instead as I do not wish to waste another year. But can part time local diploma go any of the local uni? Or should I wait for another year to apply poly through DAE again? Any suggestion?

It was an unfortunate decision that you withdraw from NYP, you could have try your best to pull through, then go for a specialist diploma or degree of your liking later.
Were you assigned to any poly course this year? Did you apply through the normal JAE?

You may want to check out the entry requirements of the part-time diplomas here,
- http://www.getcet.sg
Many part-time diplomas require work experience. You may want to email the polytechnic directly to ask whether they will consider you, if you have no experience.

You may see the progression pathway here,
- https://www.getcet.sg/About-CET/Overview.aspx

According to the MOE FAQ, only NUS part-time & UniSIM part-time accepts part-time poly diploma as of now, more institutions to join in the future,
- http://ifaq.gov.sg/MOE/apps/fcd_faqmain.aspx#FAQ_58405

Alternatively, you may consider private A levels by self-study or private institutions, type "advanced level" and search here,
- https://www.cpe.gov.sg/cos/o.x?c=/cpe/peis&ptid=376&func=csesearch&ptid=401
Remember to only apply for A Level courses in EduTrust accredited schools.

There are also WSQ Diplomas (WDA funded), but those do not progress to universities, have to go through the part-time poly diploma before proceeding to university.

If you are seriously desperate and you are going to get stuck for this year without anything to do, I strongly suggest you seek immediate help from the authorities like MOE or your MP. Be open minded if you are granted help.

Thank you so much for the info! And yes, I do have working experience that is related to what I want to take up for part time diploma.

I was in Financial Informatics last year but have no interest and was unable to deal with coding. I can't apply through JAE this year as I was an ex student of poly. I got rejected by NYP when I apply through DAE this year. (I only apply DAE in one poly instead of five)

Now I'm stuck in between whether to take up part time diploma or to wait for another year to apply for full time diploma. If I choose to apply for full time diploma again, I will continue working for now. But what I'm worry is that I'll get rejected again.

Internship and academic modules are stripped away in part-time diploma to fully focus on work-based skills training. Part-time students are less likely to join student activities due to the timing of their classes and they are expected to be working.

Full-time diploma provides a more holistic education. These diplomas are articulated to a lot more universities globally.

ah i see, thanks for that info, but can i ask? in terms of work wise if working industry using the part time diploma to compete against full time diploma, the chances of hiring its the same right? cause the quality for full and part time diploma its the same yes?

It depends on the companies' hiring process.
- Some have bias or preference for or against certain institutions.
- Some prefer part-time or full-time graduates.
- Also how you fare during interview and test given.
- Also depends on what extra valued credentials do you have? Work experience? CCA leadership? Competition prizes? Community service? Grassroots?
There are so many factors. :s22:

As long as the job requirements say polytechnic graduates, I suppose you can go ahead to apply with your part-time poly diploma. :s13:

Hey TS, I was in the same situation like you this year. To be honest I didnt have much hopes as my result was only released few days before School starts. You should have applied for the other polys as well.. I applied for all the Polys and only NYP accepted me back. Ex-student of NYP and dropped out to retake my English. Luckily i got in to SBM. I was very very lucky cause I know most of the DAE applicants will not get a slot. I sent alot of appeal letters and even called the School just to grant me an interview. Which courses did you apply for? You could go to NS first (If you are a guy) then re-apply 2 years later. I wouldn't recommend a part-time diploma as you might not be included in GSMs, student activities etc . Otherwise try again next year or consider taking Private As/ Diploma. I wish you the best of luck !

Which courses did you apply for? How long have you been in your course? Do you have a good GPA etc? These are the factors they will keep in factor.. I was previously from Digital Media so i think they gave me a chance to pursue business courses.

Hi there. I did call the school regarding the appeal and they told me there is no appeal for DAE application and told me that all the courses are filled. I've even emailed the course managers to help me and they told me it's the admission office who decide our outcome. I'm a girl and lucky I don't have to serve ns.

I don't think I'm able to cope with A's as I've forgotten most of my basic and private diploma is really useless in Singapore. :/ So I'm wondering to choose between part time diploma or wait for full time diploma next year which I've no idea will they accept me.

I applied for Hospitality & Tourism, Food & Beverage, Banking & Finance. I withdrew my course after 3 months of studying..

Funny thing, i applied for Hospitality and Tourism too and they told me its filled. And the Admissions Office Head of Regristrar told me that the Director of the School decides the outcome.. The course managers that interview you are just writing a letter of recommendation so that the Director might consider to accept you. Don't worry I'm sure you can get in next year. Try Business courses with lower cop. Send the respective course managers and the office your appeal letters so that they will notice you. You could try Marketing or Business Management which has a higher intake.

However Business courses are super competitive now. With JC eligible students taking up Biz Courses, the slots left for DAE students and international students are close to 0
