Partial upgrade for overclocking

I need advice on which platform to go, haswell or ivy-bridge for overclocking. Right now I'm doing minimum photoshop and video encoding work, not sure to get i5 or i7. Most of the time Ill be playing FPS games. One thing for sure, the rig will be "water cooled" with custom open loop watercooling system.

I like the z77x-ud3h, but it seems to have quite a few problems, so can't decide which mobo to choose. My budget for the cpu and mobo is about 450-550, be it brand new or 2nd hand.

Don't waste money to get Z77.

get B85 or H87 motherboard with K unlocked CPU can overclock with ASUS motherboard now!

But I'm more comfortable with z series for overclocking.

People saying Ivy bridge is not as hot as Haswell when over-clocked.

But for future proofing, Haswell is the way to go. Future chips will be based on LGA 1150.

So u need to choose which way to go first. Ivy for lower heat during OC or future proofing with Haswell. It al depends on ur usage n how often u change ur rig.

Personally I like Asus ROG boards. MSI gaming boards are good too. Think I kinda read a lot of issues for GA-Z77 series boards. Didn't look up their Z87 boards though.

So, for the time being, I am more confident in choosing either Asus or MSI for OC-ing.

Other bros here may have differing views from me.
