I have read about passive income and it is a very attractive idea.

What is the best way to go about generating passive income here, what is the most viable option in Singapore? Any websites or blogs with proven techniques to recommend?

You need to be a bit careful here. More often than not, "passive income" is shorthand for "I'm about to try to recruit you into a Ponzi scheme".

"Passive income" should really only refer to things where you literally sit back and pocket the income stream. Investing in dividend stocks is "passive income". Investing in bonds is "passive income".

Trading stocks or options or FX or buttcoins or whatever is not "passive income" because you have to sit there and stress out about your positions and your risk management all day. Trust me on this: being a trader is stressful as hell. It will take years off your life.

Running an "internet marketing" business is not "passive income", it's "being an asshole". Investing in land-banking or an obvious Ponzi scheme is not "passive income", it's "being an idiot".

I'd even go so far as to say that renting out an apartment is not "passive income", because you still have to answer phone calls at two in the morning when the pipes are blocked and the toilet's overflowing.

So don't get seduced when you see the words "passive income". Most "passive income" schemes are either not really passive, completely dodgy, or both.

Usually i give my tenant a list to call for this type of problem. From toilet repair to changing light bulb. :s13:

Usually replacement or servicing of those wear and tear items are borne by tenant right? :s13:

As a shareholder, the best method is buy undervalued stocks. Lazy method, just put in Fixed deposits and keep rolling over, but this method will not guarantee the best return that you want.

Passive income has been always the talk in town due to lucrative "do-nothing" deals. However, why would someone really share with you passive income when he can reap full returns..

Something to ponder: If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Start low and start safe. Like SSB, OCBC 369/UOB one account, FD and small amount for stocks. Thats how I manage my portfolio.

Passive income is good, but is also good to have a full time job. That's my perspective.

I am a slow and steady kind of person, so I slowly building up my passive income, I started beginning of this year and my passive income hits $2000. Although is less than $200 per month, but is my first year and whether I can maintain my $2000 passive income is still a question mark.

Capital should be around S$50,000-60,000 for a conservative 3-4% p.a. yield. :)

When your holdings reach higher and higher you can adopt a more defensive position to preserve wealth with lower risk investments.

Let's say you've accumulated S$5 million and put into a low risk investment with 3% p.a. yield.
That's an easy S$150,000 return just by shaking leg at home and let your fingers do the walking!
What's the point of investing in mid to high risk products and risk your wealth being partially or fully wiped out?

This is the reason why the rich will always get richer if they can balance their budget and finances well.
The higher the quantum the easier it gets.
