Hi there!

What is your budget and usage? Do you require Office and Windows? If playing games, you might want to list down some games that you play and the screen resolution, for eg. full HD, 1440p, 4K?

I agree, it is a useful skill to learn. And it is not like I don't like people to assemble my stuff, I just like the fun in assembling my own computer. Plus, you get the bragging rights and say that you built your own pc....

If you are afraid of breaking stuff, don't be, there are lots of tutorials on youtube to follow.

I guess system builders at first are all scared before they do it, just take the plunge and do it, that's how I started, and now I help my friends build their own systems for them.

If one is buying a new system then it would be good to let the shop power up with motherboard, cpu, RAM and GPU. On the spot can confirm the system is ok and RAM size.

yeh 4 & 5 of sls provide free assembly with guarantee exchange parts failed.
Some do it on the spot, while others especially gaming collect another day.

I really wonder those diy system builders from carousell can earn profits meh? What value add they can provide if they do not setup software? If they just assemble and can power on is consider job done then customers might as well just go to SLS shop.

true. they don earn much profit from the parts mostly is to provide aftersales service. which some do not know how to diagnose when issue arise. some want at their own convenience at their place. and sometime at sls might be con into buying higher end stuff which isnt really needed.. sls do not install the necessary programs like anti virus internet browser etc for you but those on carousell or forums, they may or may not be able to depends on them.

Profits come from selling with low end or cheap components at high price for a package. For all we know, they source items from qoo10 with coupons and sell at RRP.

Its almost impossible to break anything.. just need learn how install the CPU in the correct orientation can already.. the rest is just plug in and on. Most stuff are also one way insert except case pins.

i do agree that it is almost impossible to go wrong when theres manual and youtube provided. but what if encounter lemon parts and they not expecting it and, as a newbie. not much experience in troubleshooting so might be difficult for them. say if they managed to build everything perfectly.. but over time, hardware failure or user usage that might cause any issue, so having someone to service who built for them is simpler.

Encountering faulty parts for first time is really unlucky, that's all i can say. If they find people to help them.. any issue arise end up they will look for the person to get spoonfed over and over again. Where got people so free to go their place to troubleshoot everytime issue arise?

That's why they should build it themselves, in case of any hardware failure at least they know how to remove cables and screws, follow instructions and troubleshoot. Also, it feels more satisfying.

Nowadays is very easy to assemble, no way u can plug wrongly unless with force unlike old times where ide ribbon cable dun have the groove or need to note the molex power cable

Custom liquid cooling is another case liao. Not as many builder offer this service, as any leakage will kill your parts. Risk of damage during transport too, unless fix up and do extended tests on the spot.

Aftershock/Dreamcore have such service but don't expect to be cheap.
