My PC auto shutdown at the WinXP welcome screen during boot up.

However when I boot up in safe mode, it alright. Can run anti-virus overnight without problem.

Initially I thought is boot sector virus, so I boot up using AVG Rescue CD, but the PC shuts down again before it loads the AVG program.

I tried formatting the HDD, and it again shuts down during the installation screen. Doesnt seems like boot sector virus.

What diagnostic steps should I take next? Is there anyway to isolate the problem?

Specs: AMD 64 X2 5000+ with Biostar N68S
2GB Kingston DDR2 RAM

sounds like some driver is giving some problems... try press F8 before the windows xp loading screen, select "disable automatic restart on system failure"... then try boot up again...

Doubt its driver, coz my HDD is already formatted. Will auto shut (not reboot) during installation of Windows.
