A lot of people make that mistake, because single fan is cheap so they just buy.

That single fan card in Nano S will definitely give you bad temperatures.

Here's a example:
216250.abfbe301f961b0bd8ba53f1ab262c537.256c.jpg

See how close the card is to the PSU, hardly any air can reach it. Plus you are outputting on a 4k and a 720p secondary display, it will constantly be on load and hot.

I can confidently say, no need monitor, it will be hot.

Edit: kingston sd card is not the same as RAM, RAM hard to go wrong with any brand.
Alot of people look down on the single fan card

I actually prefer the single fan cards for my builds coz

1. Uber long warranty period
2. It is designed to work in small spaces

Alot of cases nowadays go for BLING.
Not many has airflow in mind

If you are using a casing and a mini / single fan card gives you temp issues
Either lower your expectations,
Improve on cable management
Or just change to a better casing that was engineered with airflow in mind, rather than water cooling.

Firstly
to the original THreadstarter
25" is perfect for an uber long timeline. That is the priority
Whoever recommends a TN screen when there are IPS / VA screens
THAT ARE SO MUCH BETTER WHEN DEALING WITH COLOURS
I don't know what to say

Secondly. Editors DO NOT OVERCLOCK beyond stock OC
BECAUSE THEN, THEY WILL BE DEALING WITH ARTIFACTING DURING TH RENDER PROCESS
IT IS NOT FUN TO LOOK FOR GHOST FRAMES in a deliverable, more so if the deliverable is more than 3 mins. OCing can result in hours of frustrating
export, preview, export, preview, export, preview, export, preview, export, preview
PULL HAIR OUT IN FRUSTRATION
WTF IS THAT GHOST FRAME??????

Tmfwy korkor, I wouldn't be recommended TN panels if not because of restrictive budget though. (I admit I recommend it) yet, I'm unsure which model of monitor actually would suit TS as even IPS have many different brands and budget, which I highly recommend TS to research and see for himself before buying. Hence, initially I don't want to recommend any.

Your second point in OC will produce ghost frames during rendering, I made a few Ryzen rigs with OC with some of then running video rendering yet I don't see the ghost frame you mentioned. Does it target specifically on one kind of software, or does it happen randomly regardless of software? Hope you can explain as I would be interested to know :) thank you

Thanks, i will check this out too. will u recommend ASRock Z370 Fatal1ty ITX? it also does have AC8265. I do not have much experience of MOBO Wifi, but those that comes with ASUS really sucks. I always end up having to buy an external wifi adapter just to browse normally. I was wondering if the upgrade to Intel MIMO wifi will save me the trouble of buying the external wifi adapter.

I have this board, it is actually the highest end Z370 itx board around with strongest power delivery (among all available options), no inductor/vrm coil whine etc like some current models.

But for an i3-8100 its not a good balance because high end board, entry level CPU. But if you need 6 SATA ports this has it.

A lot of shops see ITX no up including Tech Dynamic distro's premium resellers. So you may have to call in to TD ask for sales team/Bryan work out the options for you. SRP is S$309

Hey, I will also be building my rig in the coming weeks. It will be my first time soo I am pretty unsure about things but i hope to be able to find some help here. I shall share about my rigs and cost too.

CPU: i3-8100

Motherboard: ASROCK Z370M ITX AC
is there a faster itx budget mobo out there that can reach 800+ mbps wifi?

CPU + MOBO = $397

Graphics Card: Zotac GTX 1050 Ti 4GB $200 (after 20 lazada dollars discount)

Storage: Samsung EVO 850 250GB $125 (qoo10 with coupon)
Can anyone who have experience with asrock Z370 know if this ssd is compatible with the motherboard? I do not see the EVO 250GB on one of the compatible storage on ASROCK website but the forums said it does work with the EVO 950.

Also, given that M.2 is also available? I was wondering if there are any benefits in using M.2 rather than 2.5 SSD?

Secondary storage: Western Digital 1TB 7200 RPM $70 to be upgraded later

Ram: Ripjaws V 2400MHZ DDR4 (4GB x 2) $159
Should i go with DDR4 Ram since there might be future upgrade with my rig in the future or i should get something cheaper from DDR3

Power Supply: Cooler Master Lite 500W $69
This is the most confusing thing for me. Based on online calculations, my wattage usage should be around 300W. is getting 500W good just in case i would upgrade to a GTX 1060 6gb in the future? Also, are cooler master power supply reliable? Can anyone recommend a more suitable power supply?

Windows 10 Home: $159
Does anyone know where to get cheaper and reliable Windows 10 Home? I always wonder if the activation key on carousell will be blocked one day.

Casing: Fractal Desgin Nano S Window $60 (Carousell second hand)

Total Cost: $1239
As you can tell, I am also on a budget as this is my first time building a rig. I am afraid something might go wrong!

On the side note, I am using a Crossover 27 4k 60hz monitor which is awesome. I appreciate any advice and comments for my rig.

Isn't it abit wasteful to pair the i3 with a z370 board? If you got more budget try to get at least the i5-8400 or find a ryzen board that has fast wifi.. My 2 cents

Heh no prob Singu :)

As a general rule of thumb, IPS / VA produces much better colours compared to TN.
I say general coz there are exceptions where TN can produce good colour depths and vice versa IPS for bad colours. :p
But in general, an IPS / VA ftom Samsung / Dell / HP is a safe bet.

TS mentioned 25" so he LLST only has 2 choices. Dell U251x or LG 25UM58
Both of which are decent monitors

Samsung generally produces nice colours, and an exception to an affordable TN panel with nice affordable all round performance is the Samsung U28 monitor. 1ms GTG, nice colours and 4k. but only downside is price and TN panel. $@#@$
Dell SE2717 is another cheapo IPS BUT very very limited colour options. You really get what you pay for but decent price performance value. I prefer the Samsung S27 series. Rich colours but expensive.

What im driving at is, with all that said and done, single fan aluminium sunflower heatsink still dont cool as well as dual fan fins heatsink.

So just get the better one from the get go and assuming you alr taken care of all other factors, then u will have a highly optimized rig.

In that case, i should stick to the lower end ITX. the most i would be buying is 8400, hence getting such a high end MOBO for the wifi may not justify my cost. But thanks for this info, i was also wondering why many shops do not carry the high end ITX. i guess small form factor pc are still not picking up here :(

8100 have a higher base core than 8400. my current i5-3450 have a base core of 3.1ghz compared to 8400's 2.8ghz. But based on youtube videos, i do see the extra cores helps alot in performance and heat issues.
But does cores > ghz? will speed be compromised if i use a lower base frequency?

any ryzen builds u can recommend for ITX?

Just fitted my coffee lake into my ftz01 casing.
Using the gigabyte z370n WiFi. Between this board and the Asus strix z370 itx, I prefer the giga's rear layout and I/o options.

A thing I hate about the FTZ01 (also in RVZ01/ML07) is that I have to unplug my 2 SSDs and optical drive cables, unscrew a few more screws, just to access the GPU/2 case fans. IIRC, they made it more easier to access and service in RVZ02 onwards.

Last I saw my 1070FE was when I needed to check which fan was causing a clacking noise (turned out to be the Cryorig HSF that uplorried), it was dusty as heck, but hey, temps seemed fine so didn't bother to clean it :s13:

Thats wy i am moving towards M2 SSDs. Easy to hide, less wires... :p

8400 got turbo boost up to 4ghz with adequate cooling while i3 no turbo boost. More cores doesn't mean more speed. Coz if it is, Ryzen 7 will haul ass already. It's application dependent whether extra cores/threads will be faster or not.

CPU speed is a balance result from the IPC of the cpu, core clock and number of cores (generally speaking). However, how well are they utilized is based on the application and how well optimized is the application towards a certain cpu architecture.

A Sandy Bridge 4 cores i5 @ 4.0GHz will perform worse than Kaby Lake 4 cores i5 @ 4.0GHz due to newer generation cpu have higher IPC (instructions per clock) as it have been optimized a number of times to yield better result with the same number of cores and clock speed.

A program that's utilize high core count like deep learning and video rendering will see better performance with more cores rather than higher clock. However, high enough core speed and IPC will compensate the lack of number of cores as seen in the case OF 6C12T i7-8700K @ 5.0GHz will perform equally good, if not better, than the Ryzen 7 1700X @ 4.0GHz even in core count intensive workloads.

A program that utilize high core clock like games (in general) and especially older ones, will have better performance with higher core clock than more cores. Most will see minimal improvement going from 4 cores to 6 cores to 8 cores. Games that are well coded to use more cores are only seen with some recent titles and a handful amount of games only.

For ITX Ryzen, do go with Asus Strix B350i or Asrock Fatality AB350 Gaming ITX/AC. You won't be wrong. Don't go with Gigabyte AB350N Gaming WIFI. The layout is not conventional and inexperienced builder will have some issue with cable routing and management. Ryzen 5 1600 or 1600X would be good for generally anything. From Gaming to Video editing/rendering to streaming you games online. It's still a good priced all rounder (maybe until H and B series Coffee Lake ITX motherboard is out and stable stock of i5-8400 on the market shelf). Choose the non-X if you're using the stock cooler (note: AMD Wraith Spire is about 70-71mm tall, check the chassis cpu cooler clearance if it fits or not) and choose the X model if you're gonna get an aftermarket cooler anyway, as the non-X come with stock cooler and the X model doesn't come with it.
