Hi I'm looking for help with my new build.

My first PC was 7 years ago build at sim lim. This time I want to try building myself.

Right now I looking at these components,

I7-13700K + ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-A (Good combo?)

Lian Li O11D Dynamic Evo (For this case is it good idea for Air cooling? Any recommendations for the CPU Fan?) or should I get Corsair 4000D Airflow? Current PC case is too big (Corsair 780T)

What PSU should I get? (1000W enough? What brand should I get?)

Corsair 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz C18 or 3200Mhz C16? (Any Ram recommendation?)

Components ordered
-RTX 4080
-Samsung 980 Pro 2TB

Thanks in advance!

Looking for minimum specs
R7 5700x or i7 12070K
3080 ti
u really dont have much room for alternative parts, since these are very near the high end already. whats ur use case for ur pc? if u dont need it soon, suggest u hold out for a few more months as next gen of parts coming soon, so what u get now could be obsolete very quickly.

Lian Li O11D range of cases are designed for water cooling not suitable for air cooling.

13700K and Z790 is like end-of-life products since next generation of intel cpu will be using new chipset motherboard. You should consider getting a AMD 7700X with either a X670E or B650E motherboard since AMD AM5 can at least support another 2 more generation of cpus. This gives you a better upgrading path in the future.

Should I get ddr5 for future proof or stick to ddr4? Anyone use those display aio? If I going for aio should I choose Asus or Corsair?

DDR4 is a dead end means no AM5.
Go for AM5 if you wanna keep your system future proof. Besides, DDR5 now is more superior given the latencies have dropped and speeds are up. But AM5 I believe max is 6000/6200 speeds only which doesn't matter cause it's what the architecture is proven to work best with.

Thanks! For AMD 7700x or 7900x = 13700K? Any recommendation for motherboard to pair with 7700x/7900x?

I'm not too familiar with AMD. Intel guy here. Perhaps those AMD Kaki's can chime in to help you. 7900x may be hard to cool I think 7700x runs much better from what I've heard for games.

If you want DDR4, Intel still will be more cost effective and runs just as well. But if platform investment is your goal, then AM5.

Yeah I saw mixed reviews too. But in terms of company which one is better? Do you have any recommendation for 360mm aio?
Personally using arctic liquid freezer 280, just get a solid MB, set the fan curve, and you are set. Been through the nighmare of buggy software aio, just too much hassle.

You might might want to consider their 360.

all of the zen 4 cpus will target 95c operating temperature, so unless u power limit or undervolt them they will run as fast as possible to hit this temperature and give the impression that they are hard to cool, when they are actually ok with pretty much any cooler out there.

for pure gaming performance, 7700x is the best out of amd but looking at pricing, i would say 13600k with ddr5 delivers basically the same level of performance for a lot cheaper.

I mean I read those with 7950x stock are running as hot as Intel 13900k. I get your point I'm also undervolting my CPU through LLC tweaking and lost as much as 10 degrees while overclocking it at the same time.

Yeah only problem with Z790 is 1 generation use only. That's why if savings is good go for a good z690 + 13600k. It's basically the same thing.

That's why I never bothered and just swapped CPU. For those intending to keep the system for long, AM5 better bet. But then again a 13600k for example with a competent setup will be more than enough to even serve you a good 2 years realistically before the need to look at a new CPU/board is necessary.

It really depends how realistic people are with this 2-3 generation support on boards. Personally, I'd be content with 2 generations on 1 board. Because it will come to a point power requirements and socket requirements would entail a totally new motherboard. I'm quite eager to see how many gens AM5 will support. Cause it seems AMD may also only go for 3 or 4 (X3D versions Zen 4 + Zen 5) generations on that platform too but no where close to what AM4 supported.

13600K with DDR4 mobo is even cheaper, around S$8XX for a Z690 mobo. With DDR5 you are looking at 9XX-1K.

Similar, 7700X with a B650 will set you back for 1K to 1.1K and above 1.1K for X670.

If budget is not an issue, i would suggest going for AMD route. Pay a bit more so that in the future you can change to newer AMD cpu with just a bios update. For intel Z6xx/Z7xx you are pretty much stuck with a 13000 series cpu. But then, in the future you still can upgrade to a 13900K too, but just not the newer intel cpus.

Anyway, it's just my opinion. Like what NR49 said, a 13600K with DDR5 will deliver the same level of performance against the 7700X. So just go with the combo you find most comfortable with.

even though it is a k sku, b660 is enough for most ppl and i would suggest getting it over zX90 as gains from oc-ing the 13600k are quite negligible. ddr4 also noticeably hampers its performance, making it only on par with a 12700k. u can get a combo with a decent tuf gaming ddr5 model for 750, while 7700x + b650 realistically starts at 900. with that kind of savings and far superior multicore performance, i feel that the 13600k with ddr5 is a no brainer for high end gaming. just a lil sad that sg is mostly ddr4 for 600 series boards.

Even most of the B660s today from Asus or Gigabyte offer really good VRMs. Even Z690/Z790 actually have over-engineered VRMs. 13600k is indeed the best CPU today for gaming with a good ddr5 kit. You will be hard pressed to upgrade over the next 2 years. My VRMs at 290W CPU load is only 52 degrees. And with a 13600k, you will run far lower than that.

If using B660 can even go down to S$7XX for a DDR4 model. No. i was referring to the price range. For me, if budget is a concern then the intel make more sense because it is just cheaper overall, not just 13600, both 13700 and 13900 are also cheaper than most AMD offering.

I was looking at 13700K with a Z690 as an upgrade from my current 11700K and Z590 next yr. But now i might switch my attention to AMD 7000 series. :s13:

Might as well hoot the X3D version. I do not think current AMD offerings are that competitive.
